actually, it's made of cotton. seriously, I'm not joking. my personal take on dinero is that if you happen to have enough to share and someone is in need of some, neither party should have a problem with that excess being shared. I'm not talking socialism, here. but for example, sometimes I have more money than I know what to do with. sometimes my friends don't have enough to be able to do what they want. I say, here, take mine. I got nothing better to do with it. and sometimes they'll take it, but sometimes they will refuse. they give reasons like, I don't wanna have to worry about paying you back, or, that's your money...I shouldn't accept hand outs. that's crap. if I offer it, I mean it. if I had something in mind that I needed the money for, I wouldn't have offered it in the first place.

"Money can be exchanged for goods and services." ---Homer, "The Simpsons" "Money is the root of all evil." Can "money" be exchanged for "evil services"? Can "goods" be exchanged for "roots"? Can "for" be exchanged for "the"? Have you ever seen someone receive a lot of checks for a birthday or some kind of celebration? Wouldn't it be funny in a cruel sort of way to burn the checks before they got to the bank? I always thought that paper was an odd thing to use as currency. Now half the time we don't even use that; we use imaginary numbers that live in the computers of banks and credit card companies. I think bartering would make things a little more interesting. I think the world should try that out for a week just for the hell of it. I'll give you three blades of grass for a pack of Shock Tarts.

The Dark Side Of The Moon - 1973 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. The pyramid-like prism refracting the thin white light into a rainbow became synonymous with the band, as did the album, a collection of epics steeped in Roger Waters' lyrics of paranoia, alienation and schizophrenia. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film "Zabriskie Point," a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us And Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for "The Body," a surreal medical documentary. To bring the songs into a clearer light, Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically-projected footsteps and planes flying overhead ("On The Run") to a roomful of ringing clocks ("Time"). The band brought in female singers to sweeten the harmonies throughout the album. Gospel singer Clare Torry was given a solo, albeit lyric-less, turn on Richard Wright's "The Great Gig In The Sky," shrieking, sobbing and sighing in orgasmic waves. Floyd also enlisted Dick Parry's saxophone on "Us And Them" and "Money," which became the group's first American Top 40 hit. Further adding to the record's mystique, barely audible spoken passages were sprinkled throughout--a result of hours interviewing random Abbey Road occupants about their views on insanity, violence and death. The combination of creative and technological concepts must have struck a nerve; DARK SIDE OF THE MOON remained on Billboard's albums chart for an astounding fourteen years. It made Pink Floyd a household name, elevating them to the level of the Rolling Stones and The Who in the rock pantheon. Maybe most important, DARK SIDE found Roger Waters for the first time using the group as a tool for his own concepts and personal views, foreshadowing conflicts that would come to a head in the band's future works. Speak to Me Money Breathe Us and Them On the Run Any Colour You Like (Instrumental) Time Brain Damage Breathe - Reprise Eclipse The Great Gig in the Sky (Instrumental) Speak to Me (Instrumental) "I've been mad for fucking years, absolutely years, been over the edge for yonks, been working me buns off for bands..." "I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Breathe Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave but don't leave me Look around and chose your own ground For long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be Run, run rabbit run Dig that hole, forget the sun, And when at last the work is done Don't sit down it's time to start another one For long you live and high you fly But only if you ride the tide And balanced on the biggest wave You race toward an early grave. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Run (Instrumental) "Live for today, gone tomorrow, that's me, HaHaHaaaaaa!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older And shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desparation in the English way The time is gone the song is over, thought I'd something more to say -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Breathe - Reprise Home, home again I like to be there when I can When I come in cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Great Gig in the Sky (Instrumental) "And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime." "I never said I was frightened of dying." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Money Money, get away Get a good job with more pay and your O.K. Money it's a gas Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash New car, caviar, four star daydream, Think I'll buy me a football team Money get back I'm all right Jack keep your hands off my stack. Money it's a hit Don't give me that do goody good bullshit I'm in the hi-fidelity first class traveling set And I think I need a Lear jet Money it's a crime Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie Money so they say Is the root of all evil today But if you ask for a rise it's no surprise that they're giving none away "HuHuh! I was in the right!" "Yes, absolutely in the right!" "I certainly was in the right!" "You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a bruising!" "Yeah!" "Why does anyone do anything?" "I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!" "I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely. It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out"

I'm very lucky. I wake up every morning and there's a wad of cash waiting for me on the kitchen table with a note explaining why my parents are in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, or maybe at the neighbours. My room is filled with money every where I look there is money right now. Money means nothing to me except I use it to buy drugs and booze. A lot of people owe me favors and they try to pay me in money, I like to make them think of something more creative to pay me in because I don't need anymore money. Money is stupid.

Money is not an adequate way to measure success... i truly believe success captivates your inner-self, whether or not you can prosper with what has been so generously given to you...individuality and uniqueness... not with what societies prolific influence says you should be, or strive to become...inadequacies of todays culture thriving on ignorance and greed...benevolent truths abrogated by wealth...inexplicable loneliness you cannot purchase true freinds, loyalty dangling from a stick just beyond grasp you fall, drowning in your self-proclaimed wealth

on the gold coast of australia sharks have eaten some people swimming in canals; these canals are like artificial rivers with sand banks like beaches. there are quite a few canals, with houses on either side, and some of the canals meet up with lakes and others with rivers or the broadwater which meets up with the ocean. it is known by all that sharks are in the canals and well may eat you if you swim. this not being sufficient to discourage people, the council is insituting a $50 dollar fine for those caught swimming in the canals. i think this is a precious insight into human psychololgy. either the loss of $50 dollars is a fate worse than death, or minds can't grasp such abstract concepts as death while money with its simple numerical reward and exchange system...now that they can understand.

money is nothing. it has no value but that attributed to by those who accept it in exchange for goods. that being so, it should be possible to just stop using it, i'd just go to the grocery store, take what i need, do my job every day, and not get paid... of course there are the problems of incentive and greed...money is a great moderator and distributor. wouldn't a world without money be nice though? sigh.

I don't understand it. Where is it going? What is it doing? It is indecipherable. Unpredictable. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't. It worries me a lot. I see other people worrying about it, talking about it, doing things with it, and that worries me too. What is it? How does it work? How should I use it? How should I feel about it? How should it make me feel? Is it evil? Is it fair? I don't like it. I can't manage it. We are not friends, money and I.

An indirect_tool It buys things, opens opportunity and pathways, but that's all it does. I spend it mostly on food, transportation and debt from housing, sometimes medical care... but if society were a little more codependent and cooperative instead of artificially I dependent, we would need money less, and less money... if I knew better what I could eat in the environment around me and how to prepare and identify it and grow more foods then I am fed for my knowledge and work, if I can heal myself or feed a healer in return for healing... and so on... But it's always more complicated than. Just "that". If I ate and grew food in this soil... would it be safe? Would other steal my harvest? Or would we clean the soil and work together? My train of th_ought has come to a stop. I am at work now, making money... for myself and for the company and the state and national government and whoever else all that tax money goes to... rent more bikes damnit! I am working on improving my relationship with money. It is getting easier and flowing more effectively as it comes and goes. I try to spend it intentionally to help myself a d support those who I love and respect in this money game.

epitome of incomprehensibility
|
I'm supposed to try and get in a job where I can make more of it. My brother's convinced he wants to do university out of province and my parents are retiring soon. I still owe one of them almost $3,000. But I started out owing $6,000, and it feels good to pass the halfway point as I did this week. I think I told my friend, "Well, you could get by on $500 a week" given X, Y, and Z, but she looked at me a bit strangely. That won't send my brother anywhere, though. Also, I need to fix another silly tooth. Some things you can do to cut costs. I don't have a phone. I don't do the makeup thing generally. But I'd rather have more money for what I want. Not "everything is about money" of course. That's just silly. But currency is like flowerock says, multiple uses, though it's not in a sense very real. I just wish I could send an application that made sense so I could have more of a job. I could also use the more consistent schedule than just tutoring here or there. I don't mind doing more work. But the asking for a job part is the hardest. I would rather write almost anything else. Everybody's a bit selfish.
