I know the operas The Nose and Lady MacBeth of Minsk. I am also familiar with some of his film music. Most folks dig Syms 5 + 10. I like (in addition to 13) 7 +8 (very grim,) 6 very funny (in a sarcastic way,) and 15 (very strange.) I think all the string quartets are good, but #1, even though he goes farther in the others, is my favorite. He didn't write it until he already had five symphonies under his belt. It shares some themes with Sym#6. There's great cover of Life magazine from the 1940s with DSCH wearing a firehat.
