A Day in the Life (Lennon/McCartney) I read the news today oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph. He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the lights had changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure If he was from the House of Lords. I saw a film today oh boy The English Army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away but I just had to look Having read the book. I'd love to turn you on Woke up, fell out of bed, Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup, And looking up I noticed I was late. Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, Somebody spoke and I went into a dream I read the news today oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on

sorry, sunflower, but the beach boys never had a message to their music...and the beatles did. Lennon's views helped whet the 70's radical edge. that's just a side note, though...the beatles always had far superior lyrics. and, did you know that brian wilson had his ever-so-famous nervous breakdown after listening to sgt. pepper's? Seems that the driving creative force behind the beach boys would agree...the beatles were never behind. It must be conceded though, that they were never ahead. Any music lover knows that the two bands, along with the Stones, inspired each other, and pushed each other towards musical brilliance. There may have been rivalry, but it's just petty to continue it 30 years later. Get over it, and just enjoy the damn music.

The Beatles opened up an infinite number of possibilities by pushing the boundaries of music: downplaying love and examining other, deeper, lyrical ideas; getting everything they could out of 4 or 8 tracks; experimenting with instrumentation and then-unheard of recording techniques. Unfortunately, many bands are now content to make a career out of regurgitating the Beatles' ideas. Come up with your own! That was the whole point to begin with: do something that hasn't been done before. BE DIFFERENT!

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind, Possessing and caressing me. Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes, They call me on and on across the universe, Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they Tumble blindly as they make their way Across the universe Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing Through my open views inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on Across the universe Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. I can not say more than John, George, Paul and Ringo have already said. Rest in peace George. Your music has changed me forever (yes, FOREVER) and will continue to shape others for all of time. Rest in peace John. No one ever really understood you so I am desperately looking forward to talking with you when it all ends. The Beatles were, are, and always will be...playing in my utopia 24/7.

Amen, mr. west! although, I think their amazing lyrics have to be largely attributed to Bob Dylan's influence on the band.

wow, i cannot believe sunflower said that the beach boys were a step ahead of the BEATLES. that is absolutely despicable. the beach boys aren't even COMPARAPLE, in my mind. They may have started off kind of similarly, but the beatles were REVOLUTIONARY. The beach boys just sang about little surfer girls and sappy stuff. Day after day, alone on a hill, The man with thhe foolish grin is keeping perfectly still, But nobody wants to know him, They can see he's just a fool, And he never gives an answer. But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round. Well on the way, head in a cloud, The man with of a thousand voices is speaking perfectly loud. But nobody ever hears him, Or the sound he appears to make, And he never seems to notice. But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round. And nobody seems to like him, They can tell what he wants t do, And he never shows his feelings. But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round. He never listens to them, He knows they're the fools. They don't like him. The fool on the hill sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round...

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream It is not dying, it is not dying Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void It is shining, it is shining Yet you may see the meaning of within It is being, it is being Love is all and love is everyone It is knowing, it is knowing And ignorance and hate mourn the dead It is believing, it is believing But listen to the colour of your dreams It is not leaving, it is not leaving So play the game "Existence" to the end Of the beginning, of the beginning

I didn't know that was a Beatles song, elisabeth42... I first heard Michael Hedges do that song and I thought it was his. Although, it's not like that was his only cover song, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. :)

Eleanor Rigby Ah, look at all the lonely people Ah, look at all the lonely people Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been Lives in a dream Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door Who is it for? All the lonely people Where do they all come from ? All the lonely people Where do they all belong ? Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear No one comes near. Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there What does he care? All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong? Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name Nobody came Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave No one was saved All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong? This is my favorite out of all the beatles' songs. They're all very good but I just liked this one best. It always made me feel as though someone actually cared about us lonely people. I noticed no one really did care about us loners being lonely but us of course

It gives me faith and hope to see this here. To know that there is this amazing good out there independent of my life, that can infiltrate others in ways similar and dissimilar to the way it has affected me, and that this wonderfulness will continue without me... ...it gives me reason to live

Could you just do a list of their best five songs? I don't think so, and that's what makes them the greatest band of history. Lennon's rebel rock 'n roll, McCartney's love melodies, Harrison's mysticism and Ringo's positive vibrations got together in time and space. It's so easy to identify yourself with their songs!, besides they always looked for getting better and try new things. Their appearal is just the reflect of their inner changes.
