Three of my poems for this year's course... three... make reference to Stravinsky. And why not? Rite of Spring is amazing--quite convoluzoplexicated if I do say so--and Petroushka makes me want to get up and dance. But I need that energy for editing. Pah. One week and a half left. Anyway, props to old Strav. I'd like to see the ballets live when I have time and money.

the rite of spring caused riots in paris. people were punching each other out in the theater and tearing out the seats. eh, give me shostakovich over stravinsky any day.

Maybe that's part of the appeal? I like both. Shostakovich had a marvelously interesting life. On a less serious not, what with Iggy Pop and now Iggy Azalea shouldn't we start calling Stravinsky Iggy Strav? I think he'd enjoy it. Hey, he stole the first four notes of Rite of Spring from the chorus of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," so he really can't get away with acting all highbrow and dead. P.S. Iggy, I gave the time machine back to H. G. Wells. You won't be plagiarizing from pop stars anytime soon... I hope...
