To try something different. To work without a net. To swim without a life preserver, even though the waves are pretty big out there. ... To love unconditionally, at great risk. ... To tell your boss s/he's an asshole, if that's what's truly the case.

i understand dare. as ph describes it i love you, i dare you, i want to be with you. and bjork said it too. almost exactly like that, bjork said it too. my head has this equation distance=sadness. actually, more like distance=depression. i do want to be with you, both of you, maybe even more than that...but it's not that easy. and i will not talk to any of you until we all become rested. to all of us and myself, don't let's forget this boundless blather.

After the D.A.R.E. program in the third grade, this group of girls started meeting near the back of the playground during recess. They would stand in a line while the leader of their little squad would walk slowly down the line, yelling like a drill sargeant and asking them if they would ever use drugs. They always said "NO!" in unison. They also had synchronized cheer things about how drugs were bad, and they would never use them. And when I declined their offer to join, they threatened to beat me up.

Funnier still... i wonder how many of those kids went on to use more drugs than you ever did, molly?

something about my sore back made me remember you this morning. you were such a damaged person. i hope you got better. i think you were the junkie on the side of the road that i saw on my way home from school last month. if it wasn't you, you ought to consider that line of work. it hurts and it makes you skinny, two things that you like. the junkie stopped and looked at me like it thought i would put on the brakes and back up to talk to it. yeah, that was you.
