decoy The Piano Has Been Drinking
by Tom Waits

The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep
And the combo went back to New York, the jukebox has to take a leak
And the carpet needs a haircut, and the spotlight looks like a prison break
And the telephone's out of cigarettes, and the balcony is on the make
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...
And the menus are all freezing, and the light man's blind in one eye
And he can't see out of the other
And the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid, and he showed up with his mother
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
As the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler cream-puff casper milktoast
And the owner is a mental midget with the I.Q. of a fence post
'Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...
And you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter
And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her
And the box-office is drooling, and the bar stools are on fire
And the newspapers were fooling, and the ash-trays have retired
'Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
The piano has been drinking, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me

Brad I think learning some piano is definitely a necessary life skill. Possibly the easiest instrument to play, and definitely one of the hardest to play really really well. 000604

klarchen Why don't you sing for me anymore?

Have I failed you?

Is it because I have neglected you selfishly for past little while.

Or do you not like the way I touch you anymore.

I want to make you sing again.

You have to get your voice back before August, or else November will be cruel.

Yes, November will be very cruel.

Let's co-operate.

they are not half as sexy.

prodda-g marissa, you dont want a new one, you want a nice, old, comfy one, with a satin finsh, a loose but even action, and years of music in its wood. 010725

Kate So you love Tori Amos too, Aimee?

I love my piano, the ivory and ebony are my second skin. My musical facade which I can paint around me when I'm feeling sad or feeling euphoric or just missing you. I wish you could hear me play but I know I can't play as well as Julianne, so you might not want to hear me.

"Ancient_Pagan" The modern piano does not, in my opinion, sound as pleasing as its earlier incarnation: the Fortepiano. This is the crisp, clean harpsichord-like instrument played by W.A. Mozart, Beethoven, Dussek and other great composer-performers of 1760 to 1830. If you recall, the deepest notes of the modern piano sound muddy, particularly when played with rapidity, well, the Fortepiano's deepest notes were well-defined, crisp and clear--yet equally deep! Only the post-1830 "Modern Piano" ever possessed such lower-register muddiness! 020519

CJ Piano Man
It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin
He says, "Son, can you play me a melody?
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes"
La la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da
Chorus:
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be
He says, "Bill, I believe this is killing me."
As the smile ran away from his face
"Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place"
Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da
Now Paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talkin' with Davy who's still in the navy
And probably will be for life
And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone
Chorus
It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
'Cause he knows that it's me they've been comin' to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say, "Man, what are you doin' here?"
Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da
Chorus

This is a favorite of mine and all of my friends up at school

nonlucid i know somebody who, whenever near a piano, gravitates towards it, plays a silly or quiet tune, just her fingers playing on the keys, can sit at the bench for hours, just playing

and i feel like i'd like learn to do that, but i got a flute last year and i still don't play it, so maybe not, or perhaps the keyboard, light touch on the keys, typing endlessly random ramblings for the world to see, in hopes that someone will care

and they tell me dvorak is better than qwerty, but it seems too late to change

is it ever too late?

PianoWow If all the world's a stage, my life is an opera. My phantom, my muse, my life, my tragedy, my view. I can finally laugh on the piano about my identity crisis. :)

I adore the introspection the piano provides.
