sinatra was definately not one of my favorite people..but he was arguably one of the top 5 vocalists of all time in any genre..his phrasing.. the way he could convey the story of the song..and even a measure of the heart ache and tragedy he experienced..how was he able to imbue those tunes with so much of himself..the only other singer of equal genious would be billie holiday..or karen carpenter..luthor vandross..toni braxton..the guy that sings for nickleback..sure there are tons others..but man billie holiday would just pour her pain right out over your head..when i listen to those old recordings..man.. interesting..a girl friend of one of my friends at school..steve stone..a voice major with a truly incredible voice..I always wondered why he was so effusive about my voice..because he had qualities vocally that i felt my singing woefully lacked..boy we could made some serious dough if we ever hooked up in the studio and went on like an alternative/folk music tour..but ah still one of his girl friends utrned me on to billie h. she wouldn't let it go..i think she was episcopalean or presbyterian..a wholesome girl..kinda looked like rachel weisz.. i never really paid her too much attention because in those days i was really, really aloof..but her words stuck with me..and the sorrow reflected in her eyes..she was really trying earnestly to impart something..and i was all blithe and dismissive..but yeah frank sinatra..no one comes even close now to his phrasing..because now every one is just ripping off his style..i mean all or most male jazz singers.. you got guys with pure tenor voices trying to sand paper their vocal cords with ciggarettes and bourbon so they can sound like frank..forget it..there was and will only be one sinatra..let us just honor the mans gift by listening to what he has left behind..oh yeah frank sinatra jr. does sound just like his pop but he's not faking or forcing it..he looks and has almost the same unique configuration of vocal chords..sort of like julien and john lennon.. yeah sinatra..not so much a nice guy but man could he sing.. ...

there's a frank junior? oooooo! but i love his music...jazz is one of the most wonderful things that could happen to music, jazz and opera and classical sub-continent music. jazz makes me happy and wish i knew how to dance properly, not just freestyle and a very stiff waltz spent staring at my feet to make sure im stepping right *lol* but sinatra. sometimes off-key, sometimes whiny, not a very wonderful actor; but generally such wonderful fun! i have yet to meet someone my age who enjoys him like i do, though. you're hooked, you're cooked, you're caught in the tender trap *me skips off humming happily*

Lately I've been listening to his style of music, but not necessarily stuff from only him. I've just been in a reflective sort of mood lately about that whole time frame when his music was new and what it must have been like to be alive back then. Even the book I'm reading takes place previously to and during the second world war,so it's almost like I've immersed myself in that whole era. I've truly come to appreciate music by Harry Connick Jr. and others like him who are willing to keep the style of music alive and well. It's so calming and there really isn't anything else quite like it.

franke goes to hollywood...well..i am part of that 80's generation...but i just did not get that band..or the hair ... duran duran...i'm ashamed to say..i flailed my body to the sexual throbbing beat of their songs..in the dance clubs of a small southern college town...cradled like a palm in the thrush thrush of a night winds' mounting your heart in a missionary position...and the dark blood begins to beat so loudly...Oh..ah 'scuse me..got a little carried away again... ...
