America (3:41) P. Simon, 1968 "Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together I've got some real estate here in my bag" So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies And walked off to look for America "Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh "Michigan seems like a dream to me now" It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw I've come to look for America Laughing on the bus Playing games with the faces She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy I said "Be careful, his bowtie is really a camera" "Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat" "We smoked the last one an hour ago" So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine And the moon rose over an open field "Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping "I'm empty and aching and I don't know why" Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike They've all come to look for America All come to look for America All come to look for America

Do you remember the last time I said If I ever thought about lying I'd better think of dying instead And maybe you remember the last time you called me To say we were through How it took a million tears Just to prove they all were for you But those days are through Cause it wouldn't have made any difference If you loved me How could you love me When it wouldn't really make any difference If you really loved me You just didn't love me Cause I know of hundreds of times I could be In the most unfaithful arms that you always picture me And maybe you remember that Though I can't always show proof I was true No one else could change my mind Or stop me coming home to you But those days are through You just didn't love me enough to believe me Enough not to leave me Enough not to look for a reason to be unhappy with me And make me regret ever wanting you But those days are through

EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY (Rod Stewart / Ron Wood) Spent some time feelin' inferior standing in front of my mirror Combed my hair in a thousand ways but I came out looking just the same Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave But remember one thing don't lose your head to a woman that'll spend your bread" So I got out Paris was a place you could hide away if you felt you didn't fit in French police wouldn't give me no peace They claimed I was a nasty person Down along the Left Bank minding my own Was knocked down by a human stampede Got arrested for inciting a peacful riot when all I wanted was a cup of tea I was accused I moved on Down in Rome I wasn't getting enough of the things that keeps a young man alive My body stunk but I kept my funk at a time when I was right out of luck Getting desperate indeed I was Looking like a tourist attraction Oh my dear I better get out of here 'for the Vatican don't give no sanction I wasn't ready for that, no no I moved right out east yeah! On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry sailing on my way back here I fell in love with a slit eyed lady by the light of an eastern moon Shangai Lil never used the pill She claimed that it just ain't natural She took me up on deck and bit my neck Oh people I was glad I found her Oh yeah I was glad I found her I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me I sincerely thought I was so complete Look how wrong you can be The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe They wouldn't give you the time of day But the slit eyed lady knocked me off my feet God I was glad I found her And if they had the words I could tell to you to help you on the way down the road I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats 'cause it's all been said before Make the best out of the bad just laugh it off You didn't have to come here anyway So remember, every picture tells a story don't it

The Allman Bothers Band---One Way Out Written by Elmore James, Marshall E. Sehorn, & Sonny Boy Williamson Ain't but one way out baby, Lord I just can't go out the door. Ain't but one way out baby, and Lord I just can't go out the door. Cause there's a man down there, might be your man I don't know. Lord you got me trapped woman, up on the second floor; If I get by this time I won't be trapped no more. So raise our window baby, I can ease out soft and slow. And lord, your neighbors, no they won't be Talking that stuff that they don't know. Lord, I'm foolish to be here in the first place, I know some man gonna walk in and take my place. Ain't no way in the world, I'm going out that front door Cause there's a man down there, might be your man I don't know. Cause there's a man down there, might be your man I don't know. Cause there's a man down there, Freely Lord, it just might happen to be your man... Lord, it just a might be your man, Oh baby, I just don't know...

Lynyrd Skynyrd---Simple Man (Gary Rossington - Ronnie VanZant) Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say. And if you do this It will help you some sunny day. Take your time... Don't live too fast, Troubles will come and they will pass. Go find a woman and you'll find love, And don't forget son, There is someone up above. (Chorus) And be a simple kind of man. Be something you love and understand. Be a simple kind of man. Won't you do this for me son, If you can? Forget your lust for the rich man's gold All that you need is in your soul, And you can do this if you try. All that I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied. (Chorus) Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself. Follow you heart and nothing else. And you can do this if you try. All I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied.

Led Zeppelin---That's The Way (Page/Plant) I don't know how I'm gonna tell you, I can't play with you no more, I don't know how I'm gonna do what mama told me, My friend, the boy next door. I can't believe what people saying, You're gonna let your hair hang down, I'm satisfied to sit here working all day long, You're in the darker side of town. And when I'm out I see you walking, Why don't your eyes see me, Could it be you've found another game to play, What did mama say to me. *That's The Way, Oh, That's The Way it ought to be, Yeah, yeah, mama say That's The Way it ought to stay. And yesterday I saw you standing by the river, And weren't those tears that filled your eyes, And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying, Had they got you hypnotized? And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers, But all that lives is born to die. And so I say to you that nothing really matters, And all you do is stand and cry. I don't know what to say about it, When all you ears have turned away, But now's the time to look and look again at what you see, Is that the way it ought to stay? That's the way... That's the way it oughtta be Oh don't you know now, Mama said.. that's the way it's gonna stay, yeah.

Elton John---Tiny Dancer Music by Elton John Lyrics by Bernie Taupin Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand Jesus freaks out in the street Handing tickets out for God Turning back she just laughs The boulevard is not that bad Piano man he makes his stand In the auditorium Looking on she sings the songs The words she knows, the tune she hums But oh how it feels so real Lying here with no one near Only you and you can hear me When I say softly, slowly Hold me closer tiny dancer Count the headlights on the highway Lay me down in sheets of linen you had a busy day today Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

David Bowie---I'm Waiting For The Man Words and music by Lou Reed I'm waiting for the man Twenty six dollars in my hand Up to Lexington, One Two Five So sick and dirty more dead than alive I'm waiting for the man Hey white boy, what you doing uptown? Hey white boy, you're chasing all the women around Oh pardon me sir it's furthest from my mind I'm just looking for a good friend of mine I'm waiting for the man Here he comes, he's all dressed in black PR shoes, and a big straw hat He's never early, he's always late First thing you learn is that you've always got to wait I'm waiting for the man Brown stone building and three flights of stairs Nobody stops you 'cause nobody cares He's got the works and he gives you sweet taste But then you've got to split because you've got no time to waste I'm waiting for the man Baby don't you holler, darling don't you scream and shout I'm feeling good, I'm going to work it on out I'm feeling good, I'm feeling so fine Until tomorrow but that's just another time I'm waiting for the man I'm waiting for the man Twenty six dollars lying there in my hand Up to Lexington, One Two Five five So sick and dirty more dead than alive I'm waiting for the man

Cat Stevens---The Wind I listen to the wind to the wind of my soul Where I'll end up well I think, only God really knows I've sat upon the setting sun But never, never never never I never wanted water once No, never, never, never I listen to my words but they fall far below I let my music take me where my heart wants to go I swam upon the devil's lake But never, never never never I'll never make the same mistake No, never, never, never

Clarence Carter---Slip Away Written by Marcus Daniels/William Armstrong/Wilbur Terrell Verse: What would I give for just a few moments What would I give just to have you near Tell me you would try to slip away somehow Oh I need you darling I want to see you right now Can you slip away, slip away Slip away, oh I need you so. Love, oh love, how sweet it is When you steal love, Let me tell you how sweet it is... Verse 2 Now I know it's wrong, The things I ask you to do But please believe me darling I don't mean to hurt you But can you slip away Without him knowin you're gone Baby, we could meet somewhere, Somewhere we both are not known Can you slip away, slip away, Slip away-ay-ay-ay...[stop] I need you so Vamp out... Oh can you slip away baby I'd like to see you right now darling Can you slip away baby Cause I got to, got to see you I feel a deep burning inside Oh I wish you could slip away...

Thunderclap Newman---Something In The Air Call out the instigators Because there’s something in the air We’ve got to get together sooner or later Because the revolution’s here, and you know it’s right And you know that it’s right We have got to get it together We have got to get it together now Lock up the streets and houses Because there’s something in the air We’ve got to get together sooner or later Because the revolution’s here, and you know it’s right And you know that it’s right We have got to get it together We have got to get it together now Hand out the arms and ammo We’re going to blast our way through here We’ve got to get together sooner or later Because the revolution’s here, and you know it’s right And you know that it’s right We have got to get it together We have got to get it together Now

i just finished watching this movie right before i got online...kinda freaky i love this movie...mainly because i am a classic rock fiend. i can't get enough of it. i asked for the video and especially the soundtrack for christmas. i look forward to the zeppelin songs the most even though i have all of them already. what is it about this kind of music that grabs me? i don't know...maybe because that's before music was purely for money or something...i don't know i just know that i can't live without it William: So Russell, what do you love about music? Russell: To begin with...everything.
