Dafremen Todays recap will include a yesterday recap, because...well the title of this blathe pretty much sez it all.

I draw your attention to the og_mandino blathe. Yes, yes I've been going on and on about this guy so much that you'd think I was his number one knife bearer at the sacrificial altar of Gezlibgotch the Oppressor or something, but it's not everday that you kick a 22 year old drug habit or that you begin to see all of your dreams come true. og_mandino folks...if you have time..please check it out, it's got the man's biography in there.

Ok, I wrote a little something under magic and you'll find that also under elevenation. Sorry for the redundancy, I'm a bit more abusive of the newdream drivespace than I should be and I will be sending them a check to cover the cost of another when the cash flowage starts flowaging properly like it should. (Hopefully the hard drive that THIS blathe is on will crash hard before that happens, erasing any evidence of that promise. I'm an incorrigible cheapskate, you see...four teenage daughters and a Cancer woman will do that to a man.) Anyhow, magic and elevenation if you've got the time.

Finally, there is a GORGEOUS piece of writing going on over at water_brothers. If you haven't seen Lemon Soda hitting the thesaurus or channeling the muse or WHATEVER kind of mescaline that person is on...you really should and see if you can't get LS to share some, I think we could all use a bit.

Dafremen Ok folks. Nice to be back. Listen, there's some real good stuff poppin off over at muslims. You should check that out, real eye opening stuff.

I'm perplexed at the amount of activism that evaporated the second that I suggested we get together and talk about doing something to promote unity. It's like all of the letters I sent off to some stranger in Washington because a friend asked me to were important, but us talking to each other about REALLY doing something closer to home is a waste of everyone's time. I'll have to rethink my strategy. I guess hoping that unity and action through cooperation would be their own rewards was a bit naive of me. (Maybe a few well placed banners offering a buy one get one free coupon for Six Flags in exchange for each act of cooperation and human kindness would sweeten the pot a bit?) Anyhow, see elevenation.tk still and come_change_the_world_with_us.
(Feel free to point and laugh at the guy who is throwing his career away because he cares about people. Should be fun.)

Also 10_blatherskites_i_would_like_to_meet is getting silly instead of sappy finally. DAMN! I was so enjoying the circle jerk and the scrotal slap on thigh that always seemed to follow..at least on this side of the screen.

Dafremen Noone ever asked anyone to hail the 11s do0d. Read and reenlighten yerself loco. I've said that my beliefs are NOT your beliefs...never have been and do not have to be. The mission? UNITY, comparing commonalities. Pointing out how we are the same, in a productive manner. Presenting ideas for change that promote cooperation and brotherhood. Pretty simple sh*t bro.

Noone seems to think enough of me and my absolute love of freedom to think that maybe I could start a group capable of NOT imposing my own values on others.

I would have thought that the struggle here for absolute freedom of expression and the part that I played in it, would have pointed that out. You think I enjoyed poetic onslaught's f*ck f*ck f*ckity f*ck tirade? Not really..but I DO enjoy the freedom of a place where he has the right to scream the F word til his lungs bleed.

I'll try not to direct this at you personally, but do you have any idea how TIRED I am of having my intentions twisted into the mold of other people's motivations? I have NO desire for power. Nor do I want to be a leader. I will carry the banner, and I will lead the charge if no one else has the wherewithal to do so, but positions of power and authority curdle my giblets.

I suppose perhaps the fact that back in September of 1999, I founded a gaming group that has now been active and maintained the majority of its members for four years has not been revealed to you folks.

I also suppose then, it would come as a surprise for you folks to learn that it is the only Quake2 clan that I know of that has no leader.

Not a de facto one, (I've been shot down by the group on several occasions) not a symbolic one(our best player, Punk was ranked 13th in the world, yet remains true and has stated again and again that our clan is a democracy), nor a practicing one (Our clan policies give one vote to each member and no policy passes until all members have voted. It's slow, but its right.)

It's the strangest thing you've ever seen. We have an eccentric millionaire, a precise and picky accountant, an activist teenager, an analytical mathematician AND his charming wife, a guitarist in a teen Metal band, a cautious and conservative 40 something carpenter, a self-conscious teen and a college student who is the epitome of the Golden Grahams kid, a pot growing, pot smoking, deer hunting Virginian, a practicing muslim and well..a writer/programmer/me among others.

Yet we all get along perfectly. We do not fight about our differing politics, because we have agreed that we are brothers, come together to enjoy each others company, not to tear down each others belief systems.

Look up fragz ain't skillz on Google. Add the word policies to see our clan rules.

My whole point here is that just because the REST of the world is f*cked in the head and on a big greedy, look at me power trip, does NOT mean that I am.

Quite frankly, it's sad enough to be alone in my convictions, but to pay that price and still have those beliefs denied?!

That's just f*cked, and makes me want to scream F*CK YOU at everyone who tries to tell me who I am, based on either what htey are, or what they have known. That, I realize is a product of ego(the f*ck you part), which remains one of my final addictions.

Dafremen It certainly COULD be. Did you ever wonder if those of us who feel a need to protect the underdog would be more motivated to do something if we IMAGINED that every needed us? Magic my friend, it's in us and you know it. It's a state of mind that says, "Let's begin to dream again, so that we can more easily resist the urge to throttle reality until it stops its heavy-handed tactics and lets our poor imaginations breathe."

Dafremen Nice to meet you. By the way. I'm certain that you haven't looked closely enough, having determined that the commonalities aren't the problem.(Not a judgement of your intelligence level, man. A plain and simple fact drawn from YEARS of experience and observation. Make that DECADES.)

See the commonalities don't have the major disadvantage of the differences: the introduction of EGO and division. Once those two factors start working their dark sorcery, ears close, minds shut and hearts turn the other way and fold their arms across their chests.

Notice how we are more motivated to work out the differences with those that we have a connection with. The stronger and more positive the connection, the more motivated we are not to break the bonds. In addition, we find ourselves more likely to LISTEN to one another.

No matter how intelligent we are, we fall into this trap. This notion that the commonalities are obvious and therefore unimportant. Nay nay.

They may be obvious, but if we don't share them with one another, then we have missed an OBVIOUS first step to resolving our differences, haven't we?

FIRST we must form bonds between us, bonds forged through common struggle, or common ideas, common needs, common experience. THEN we can get onto the less obvious and more problem strewn path of exploring our differences.

But see? There's where the sh*t is all screwed up. Not only do we not NEED to explore our differences, we're having them FIRED at us from a cannon, daily, hourly and minutely (to the point of HAIR splitting.) In fact, we shoot them at each other these days, it's such an accepted part of human nonculture.

That, my friend, is Machiavellian bullsh*t. And nothing smells like population control like Machiavellian bullsh*t.

stork daddy i never said that commonalities shouldn't be drawn out and described in detail and reinforced. i just said that they don't necessarily erase differences on their own. and for the record, i'm sure machivelli would be a big fan of commonalities, how better to get someone to do one or two "unpopular" and possibly antithetical things than by convincing them that you're on their team and that it's for the greater good. anyways, i'm all for the commonalities, but once again, they don't negate differences on their own. you're right though that a certain appreciation of commonality of unity is necessary for the debates to even start. i saw a great mural the other day. it was a drawing of a building. one side was in night, and it was on fire, and the other side was all sunny and daylight and the people were watering their plants etc. 031017

Dafremen Oh yea..I know what you're saying do0d. I've written quite a few things about how the darkness is as holy as the light and how the pain is just as necessary as the pain. As for Machiavelli, if it would have kept government (which paid for his bills and pills) in power, he would have been all for it.

Anyhow, that's the idea do0d. Commonalities first. Building bonds, because we've already got enough bullsh*t out there pointing out the differences and driving us apart and behind locked doors.

I honestly believe that a coupla guys like us, a coupla people like the optimist, a phebe or two...some activist fervor ala TK and misstree and a few others around this place could change things in a big way. (Wouldn't be easy, but I believe it could be done.)

You should see how quickly the dipsh*ts lost out when ›FAS› hit the scene. Within a year and a half they were all wondering why they always looked like stupid asses when they came on the game servers and started trying to trash the game.

Of course effecting change in a community of a few hundred is a lot different than changing the world...but sh*t...one community at a time...all at the same time...sure..why the hell not? 		031017
