The optimist is rarely surprised when all goes as planned, and often terribly disappointed when it doesn't. The pessimist on the other hand, is rarely disappointed and often pleasantly surprised.

I am an optimist because I want to change things for the better and I know that blood has to be spilled and disharmony and cruelty are necessary to do that. My optimism wears heavy boots and is loud. That's what is needed to be heard where I come from. How do you want to change things for the better? By hugging Nazis? By trying to argue with them? It doesn't work this way. Do whatever you can, but in order to change anything at all – in order to make optimism an active power – you have to look things right in the eye. You have to confront, to be prepared to be pushed around, to get arrested, to get verbally abused, to lose your friends and your financial security. That's the bitter truth!

well, at least now that my mom isnt talking to me, i wont have to worry about hiding from her to avoid unnecessary stress. and now that everyone knows about nimai (youhaveagirlfriend) and alison, they will know what I'm really like and i will be stronger and smarter from the whole ordeal. and now that niki is pissy at me, i wont have to worry about taping my eyeballs down so they wont roll when she talks to me. and now that josh knows i think hes shexy...well...at least i boosted someones self esteem. at least i have music, right?

I was born an optimist and have suffered from that affliction for the better part of my life.

Never was but I wasn't born a pessimist either. I was in the middle like most people till a few years ago. Now I am a synic and a pessimest which I think are virtually the same thing. Optimism is obviuosly needed to keep the worlds hopes up. But so is pessimism to bring the world back to reality once in a while.

nothing to do with the topic, but it's interesting no one has blathed here for exactly one year... maybe it does has something to do with optimism. maybe nothing is forgotten forever. that's a nice thought.

Optimist: A person that even in the most dierest situation, can see the posative side. eg: Nuke's have been launched...from everywhere...going everywhere... "Well, at least I am not going to have to pay off my fucking Visa." or eg: An optimist, gets home early from the office. Finds his wife in bed with the Pool boy..." Well, at least I get to see wether sawing off the end really changed the impact."

I am an optimist, or at least I'd like to think so. I think it's more of a mix of optimism, pessimism, idealism, and realism.

Some people might think I am a pessimist, because I always plan for the worst case scenario. I am actually an optimist. It's a case of "a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged." I am an optimist, but I've been hurt. A lot. I've been disappointed, I've disappointed myself. So I am an optimist, but I plan for the worst case scenario. Always. Because it is much better to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. Again. I cannot live with hope. Hope is torture. So I plan for the worst, and then I get to be surprised. I wish I could be a proper optimist. Maybe some day I will be. Probably not, though.
