A principle not to be abandoned and Nader will win one day...that is if we don't blow ourselves into a billion pieces by the next election. I often think about what it means to vote and realize that it means so much more than just punching a hole in some small piece of paper that will get thrown into a huge pile. It means that my family made it here when so many others didn't. It means that I have a freedom, no a privilege, other young women will never know. So I go to the polls, and I vote, but it's a lot more than that. I'm embracing something my parents nearly killed themselves for. This all floods through my mind everytime someones says "please vote" and I can't forget these things even if I wanted to.

I can never quite work out why more than half the population votes for someone different to me. And to make matters stranger...I never meet those people.

my fellow canadian skites, today's the day. i just voted in my third federal (and 6th civic election, having missed only the first municipal one for lack of advertisement) election. i feel ambiguous, knowing the candidate i put my mark beside probably won't win. but nonetheless, get out and vote!

all you need is a piece of mail and an official-ish photo id (and, of course, be at the right polling station).

causes_past_supports_that_lost (and he has a democratic say in) have a new friend. over the last three days my colleagues narrowly voted against giving a strike mandate. highest turnout ever, that is a consolation prize. having hundreds of people vote against their--and more importantly those who come after them's--interests? ridiculous. do they not know that the administration won't respect us now and will take all it can from our pay and other benefits? we may have just authorized a massive decline in take-home pay for those who come after us. sheer ignorance, meet sheer selfishness.
