Ok, for anybody who has read the half_life thread (do blatherers call them threads like on a forum?) this is the thread to let everybody know which games has leeched away years of your life and caused to to neglect homework, friends, holidays, hygiene, relationships, sex etc. etc.... So lets hear it! Mine: Starcraft 8.2 billion hours. Half-Life 5.5 billion hours. Diablo and Diablo 2 3.7 billion hours. Quest for Glory series Numbers don't go that high. Hero's Quest, see previous.

unfortunatly as I look back upon my life few games can compare to the amount of time I wasted on castlevaina two my first true episode into the fictional_world where I completly lost touch with reality and my sense of time got more fucked up than weed could ever explain.

Unfortunately, ever since I moved to the cincinnati area I haven't been able to go on battle.net. Hopefully I'll fix that some day, and we can have that game. I go as Lifereaper, and I only play ladder games. it's been a while.

castlevania 2 was my favorite nes game. i even recently downloaded the soundtrack. i was simon for a good year. and symphony of the night was a rejuvenation of the artificial satisfaction of wanderlust video games hit me up with. of course ninja gaiden. RIVER CITY RANSOM. let's not forget it. civilization one two and three. dragon quest 4. streets of rage 2. super mario 64. all those silly link games. a link to the past especially. is it just me, or did original nintendo games have near infinite replay value? something about the challenge was just difficult enough to never truly master without constant vigilence. it was always satisfying beating a game and the challenge never was gone. i'm glad i never got into everquest...i've seen friends go down for the count to that one.

it is safe to say ALL nes rpg's kicked ass. much more replay value than ones today. and sadley some even had better plots. and what about megaman 2, mario 2, festers quest, faxanadue, and (arguably the best rpg made for any system to date) swords and serpents. and is it just me, or was ninja-gaden the first game to have cut-scenes in it?

god damn those cut scenes were tight. i still remember how mysterious irene was. and why did father fight and die? why not just fight or just die? why both? ah ninja gaiden...you never gave the easy answers.

Faxanadue rocks! I remember when I finally got the golden warship on Solar Jetman. I got to play with it for about 5 seconds before it was destroyed and I never got it again. for some reason when you got the golden warship the gameplay completely changed thus shocking me into wrecking it against a wall oh and I played Life Force like crazy. oh yeah! remember the "konami code"? anyways .

You guys rock, you can't imagine how vigorously I'm nodding my head as I read this stuff! How could anyone not love the ninja gaiden cut scenes? The dialouge may not have been sharp but I adore that kind of STYLE. Anybody play Phantasy Star 4? Now there's a game with some sweet cutscenes, and the plot was so deep and twisty, I love it! I could play that one a thousand times and never fail to pick up a new and clever subtlety.

I spend an hour and a half a day playing games. i have to limit myself or i get too engrossed in it. one great part about being retired is that my time limits are my own, That and the obvious benefit of being able to act on the occasional whim and go road-tripping whenever we feel like now if i could play and drive at the same time, i might...

It's funny that pretty much everybody agrees that the 8-bit nintendo games were the best. The SNES had some killer rpgs (nobody has brought up Chrono Trigger!!!?!?) and the sega geneis with Shining Force 2, which rocked, big time. Anyway, the NES was the bomb, and so now I will tell you all an amusing side story. A little while ago I was seeing this really amazing girl, who also happened to be a gamer. We were talking about the best games ever one night and she told me she'd NEVER FINISHED LEGEND OF ZELDA!!! It was going to be christmas soon, so I went out and found an 8-bit nintendo, cleaned it up, and retrofitted it with one of those new 72-pin connectors you can buy so it wouldn't have any of the typical NES problems (blinking etc...). Then I found LoZ, LoZ 2 Aventures of Link, and Dragon Warrior (because she'd never played it, and because I adore that game.) Anyway, it was supposed to be the best christmas present ever, but we ended up breaking up before I got a chance to give it to her. I still have it, and now I'm gathering up every 8-Bit NES game I can find so I can hunt metal slimes forhours on end again. It's great. Blather on!

Ever find all 36 pieces of mithril? Shining Force 2 is the best, it's all about the Monks, and Sir Astral. I was thinking PC games in the beginning, but honestly, it's all about the old consoles, except for Starcraft though.

final_fantasy. phantasy_star (omfg they're doing a remake! *does happy geek dance that never ever ends until i own it, and then i'll be too busy obsessing to dance*). heroes of might and magic III, thanks to r_o. solitaire. megatouch tri-towers. morrowwind (like heroin, that one was... ugly, ugly days... and still i want it back... and i know it would drown me... *shudder*). diablo, civ, and the sims are creeping up there, but i can do things other than play those. each one of the final fantasy games has claimed me not just for a single play, but for an easter egg 100% i am obsessive ninja MASTA replay. and neopets got to nibble on my brain. it's all a game, all a dance, all something unscripted and alive and the rules are mutable but everyone's a ref, and no one knows what scorepad to use. but the point of any game, is to play. "Narrator: Mankind, probably the most mysterious species on our planet. A mystery of open questions. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? How do we know what we believe to know? Why do we believe anything at all? Innumerable questions looking for an answer, an answer which will raise the next question and the following answer will raise a following question and so on and so forth. But in the end, isn't it always the same question and always the same answer? Herr Schuster: A football is round, a game lasts 90 minutes. That's for sure. Anything else is merely hypothetical. Off we go!" -run_lola_run is double_brained today

i am a recovering quake addict who was a recovering heroes of might and magic 2 addict, who was a doom and ea sports addict, who was a zelda, mike tyson's punchout, metroid, and super mario brothers addict, who was a pitfall, river raid, teenage mutant ninja turtles, and pacman addict, and who also played way too much m.u.l.e. m.u.l.e. was a cool game for the atari 800. you were part of a four team colony. in order to win, the colony had to achieve certain goals. however, the goal was to be the best of the four while helping the group to jump through the hoops. hunting for the whumpus... i'm sure some of it wasn't a waste, though it's certainly not the most creative and productive way to spend one's time. i've not been finding time for video games with all the things i've been doing lately, and frankly... i don't know how i've had the time all along. addictions are hard to see and own up to sometimes.

Um, where to start. (S)NES: just about all the rpgs. Loved em all. they were so original and cool that I had to play. Sega: Super Bomberman and Sonic Spinball. A little wierd, but it was all we had. Playstation:Grandia and the Final Fantasy series. Especially 8 and tactics. Grandia took me almost a year and a half to beat because I kept losing the memory card. PS2: Never had one, but visited friends to play Samurai Warriors and a mech game that I forgot the name of. Really famous but not robotech. N64: Super mario 64 and 007 Goldeneye. Ahh, good times. Computer: Starcraft, definatly. Never did too good online b/c I gotta slow comp, but tried anyway. Also addicted to the Heroes of M&M series until it lost the castle idea. GameCube: Ahh, Metroid Prime how I will miss you and your wonderful sequel, Echoes. Hey! Look! Baten Kaitos and Eternal Darkness! Sweet! X-box: Star Wars Battlefront and Halo 2 were the only games that I really got to play when visiting friends. Oh, and Def Jam F4NY. Too easy to beat though. 360: Alas, never played it. Mebbe someone will send me theirs in the mail? (mebbe Someone will throw me out of a window for asking.) GB: Kirby in Dreamland and Final Fantasy 2. Eventually they were ruined when my brother dropped the old GB into the toilet. He was sneaking a play while he was grounded. Putz. GBA (sp): The only thing to really keep my busy for long was FF Tactics Advanced. I for one thought it was better than it's playstation predacessor (spell?) and took a lot longer to beat. You couldn't get cloud though. Bummer. Gamegear: No, im not that old, but yes, I do love to retrogame. There was this annoying airforce game that was addicting but impossible at the same time. The time limits were set too low. No one can blow up 25 planes and the carrier in thirty seconds. That's inhuman!!! That's inhumane!! Note the e at the end of the second one. Atari: Nothing really kept my attention here except a few random games. Nothing long enough to remember though. Dreamcast: Um. I guess Evolution the world of sacred device would be the only noticeable one. I never got ahold of a copy of Grandia 2. I wish I could. DS: Never had one. Wanted to play Metriod Hunters, but didn't. PSP: Astonishia Story didn't live up to expectations, but LotR Tactics and Twisted Metal were OK. Please recommend others if you know any. Web SItes:Runescape, unfortunatly, caught me. Now im all blather and Tactics Arena Online. PLease tell me if I forgot any consoles. I hardly played Arcade Games, so I left them out purposely. That's it! Im done!

(more recommendations) PS1 / PS2 - the Silent Hill and Resident Evil series of games (Resident Evil 4 for PS2 is astonishing and quite good on the creepy atmospherics, i love it even though i suck terribly at the game myself) Xbox - Ninja Gaiden Black, Battlefront2 Panzer Dragoon Orta (a bit of a rarity, but worth it if you ever get the chance to play it)

I had forgotten all about Panzer Dragoon Orta! Holy crap, I feel so stupid! That was an awesome game! I always crashed into things, but the changing of types and strategic attack placements were pure genius! Thanks for the reccom.s, I'll check 'em out! :) A little addition to my previous post: the Sega CD and that other system that worked with CDs around that time didn't ever make it to my part of the world. I have to drive for almost an hour to get to the nearest Wal-mart for crying out loud!
