Casey Prom was no doubt one of the worst nights in my life. I took a friend I'm in band and drama with. My date didn't say one word the entire time. She didn't even dance with me. Kate My friend Carrie decided not to go to our prom, even though she's a senior and was asked, because we had a track meet that same night, which was yesterday. At first I thought she wasn't going because she wasn't asked, but when I asked her about it she told me that she chose to go to the track meet because she's worked for 4 years to be where she is and didn't want to miss the opportunity to run and do well. I told her that was very honourable, because no one would have begrudged her had she gone, but she decided not to. It turned out that she ran fantastically, getting her personal bests and winning the 1 and 2 mile, and then having great splits in the 4x800 and 4x400. It was wonderful to overhear other coaches and other competitors ooing and ahhing over her and how well she did and how pretty she was, and I was so proud of her. And then she still had time to go to the afterprom. Thank you for your dedication and excitement, Carrie, I'm so glad to be able to run on the 4x800 and 4x400 with you. Even though I didn't do as well as I had aspired, I came home happier than I had ever been. A part of me decided to vow to myself that I would try my absolute hardest not to go to our prom when I'm a junior and senior if we had an important track meet at the same time unless the guy of my dreams asked me and it looks like it will be a perfect night.
