i've been seeing plenty of stupidness in the news lately when it comes to religion-related topics. 1) a couple of weeks ago i was flipping through the channels and stopped on cnn for some reason. there was some dumb ass lady bitching about how she was disappointed in all the islamic imans for not denouncing jihad to their congregations for lack of a better word. OH MY RETARD....no islamic iman (sp?) is going to denounce jihad lady. it's in their koran. IT'S IN THEIR FRICKING HOLY BOOK. they might try to shift focus elsewhere but they aren't going to come out and say 'the koran is wrong. jihad is bad.' that's like a catholic priest saying 'confession means nothing. if you commit the sin you are going straight to hell even if you are sorry.' 2) i was reading a headline that caught my eye on msn about the chinese 'having trouble with tibetan buddhism.' in the article a lady said "After all, "Why haven't the Tibetan people resorted to violence?" Saunders said. "The sole factor is the Dalai Lama's leadership." " once again OH MY RETARD...the tibetan people haven't resorted to violence because violence for the most part is not part of their culture. the reasons for that are closely related to the integral part buddhism plays in that culture but the reason that they remain pacifists in the face of all this horrible injustice is not solely because of the Dalai Lama's leadership. i can't take it. i just can't take it.

knowledge update: some small factions of tibetans did resort to violence but were so technologically challenged that they had no hope; and of course china has managed to keep them technologically challenged while raping the culture, religion, people, and land of tibet. the truth of chinese atrocity against tibet and the lack of help from the rest of the world is absolutely appalling. the great monasteries of tibet are now cattle barns; hundreds of tibetan children have been kidnapped and sent to 'reform' camps in china to stamp out tibetan culture; monks and nuns were made to have sex in the streets and if they refused they were shot in the head; members of the chinese army made tibetan children shoot their parents. tibetan refugees still pour into india to this very day. many of the refugees that are shipped to southern india develop climate illnesses because they are used to the altitudes and temperatures of the himalayas. there are more chinese in tibet now than tibetans. china is strip mining tibet for URANIUM. half of what is named china on modern day maps is actually tibet. the fragile ecosystem of this mountainous country is slowly being destroyed and hundreds and hundreds of years of buddhist wisdom and art has already been wantonly destroyed by the chinese. when the dalai lama evacuated to india in 1959 (ALMOST 50 YEARS AGO), he sent letters to britain, india, the u.s., and the united nations for aid. india was the only country that had a solid excuse (their newly gained independence from the british). sickly and sadly enough, the u.n.'s excuse was tibet was not part of the united nations. fifty years later, there is no reason why tibet should not gain back it's autonomy from the chinese other than the rest of the world is too afraid and economically dependent on china to demand that they give back what is not theirs and stop the genocide and environmental destruction. now you know boycott chinese goods

epiphany update: and the reason the u.s. government still doesn't give a fuck is because tibet was not a christian country. if western religions were involved, you know damn well one of our presidents since then would have jumped farther in there to 'make the world safe for democracy' by now. religious discrimnation in the u.s. government makes me want to leave this country. frizzaflippin patriot_act got me stuck here though.

the reason has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with not starting world war 3. the truth is that china has a lot of power, economically and in sheer numbers too ( 1/6 of the world population). im not going to lie and say that im an expert on this, but if we fuck with china, shit goes down, and the result will not be desirable.

but if we fuck with iraq or iran or afghanistan that's ok cause there's less people? iran has nuclear weapons. or the capability of making them or uranium or something. yeah, religion isn't the only reason we don't fuck with china. like i previously said, they have too much of a stake in the global economy and we were very afraid of the communists. but, genocide is genocide. americans only seem to care about that when it has to do with muslim or christian populations. and in the current american religious climate, i think it's against the first amendment to make federal policies based on religious beliefs. the constitution was framed to expand to whatever america could throw at it. but that doesn't have much to do with tibet. my rambling can also be sheer_stupidity

economy. yes it is about money. the west will continue to encourage those whom are capable of furthering its economic interests - regardless of morals and/or human rights; mere formalities that no true politician is concerned with. they simply sound good and give elite members something (besides money) to discuss at dinner parties. the west will, however, continue to 'fuck' with 3rd world countries that try to break free fom international, mainly, western economic and social opression. its got NOTHING to do with religion in my opinion.

denying or fostering religion against the will of the people isn't a form of social repression? in many societies, religion dictates the way an economy operates. in jewish communities, their social and economic lives are greatly influenced by the orthodox observation of the sabbath and up until about the past decade even the american economy practically all but shut down on sundays to allow people to go to church and have their 'day of rest.' the economy of tibet was greatly influenced by their buddhist beliefs along with the harsh climate. tibetan buddhists often eat meat because grains and vegetables are not easily sustainable there; so the small islamic community of tibet became the butchers of tibetan society so the buddhists could circumvent their religious restriction of killing. the monasteries also placed a great demand on the more barter economy of tibet; buddhist monks are known to beg for food instead of growing it themselves so they are able to devote their lives to their religious practices. sometimes they would barter their services for food by offering to pray for anyone that would fill their begging bowl. economy is influenced directly by religion. how people interact within an economy is directly influenced by religion. the supposed 'backward' economy and technologies of tibet at the time of the westernized/communist chinese invasion justified to the chinese that it was okay to just take and destroy what wasn't theirs. if the dalai lama was islamic (which i know is ridiculous to even suggest but just listen a minuted) and had declared a jihad on china complete with nuclear weapons we obviously would have jumped on that shit by now. but his buddhist approach of intellectual and spiritual passive resistance, which is a lesson the rest of the world could learn from, is being ignored. the wisdom of compassion that is tibetan buddhism is being destroyed and ignored when it was one of the most successful humanist societies in history. the selfish greed of modern capitalism and the global economy is the new religion. people worship their material goods and comfort but yet are puzzled as to why they still aren't happy. *shrugs*

...what i said is that religion is not the reason why the west would get involved with other countries (it's evident that the west coun't care less if a government oppresses, represses, fucks, kills their citizens so long as that government plays on behalf of western interests) and that economic interests pay a much more important role in determining "which country get fucked next". i don't believe i ever said that denying anyone to practice or not to practice a religion wasn't a form of social repression.

i'm just sayin i don't believe the two things are mutually_exclusive that's all. *shrugs* i tend to border on overzealous when i talk about things i care about. the tibetan cause has grown dear to my heart in the past six months or so. i just think more people should know exactly what is still going on. and like i mentioned in my very first recent post, boycotting chinese goods would probably be the most effective way of even just beginning to negotiate with them. money is about all that talks with most people anymore.

i most definitely agree with you. the tibetian religion is a religion of the spirit and of humility, i think most people in western societies could learn a thing or two about it. i also think that boycotting chinese products would probably have a positive effect for tibet; for as we know, money talks. however it makes me sad that precisely because money talks, no one will do anything about it. we make money off them and they make money from us - we're all bunch of happy happy cows. can i hug you?

and if you go to any borders, you will see quite a large section on tibetan buddhism. much larger than it was about five years ago when i stumbled upon a general knowledge book about it in the discount section. so it seems like a larger population is taking an interest. and if you google 'tibetan art' you get quite a few hits. now if only more people in the world would be concerned about doing what's right instead of what is easy and/or profitable. www.dalailamafoundation.org

I love listening to people such as you. you remind me of my Civics class. It is a joy to me to see that people in this country still have an opinion and still try to stand up for what they believe in. Too many people are becoming overly apathetic and get on my nerves when they complain about "our country going to hell in a handbasket." They need to get a f*ing life!!!

Dear LS. I don't know you. I cannot accept what I don't know unless I accept it on faith. Quite frankly, I don't have that much faith in someone I have never met, seen, of even heard of (unless you are an alter ego of someone who posted above-doubtful). I don't care that people are themselves except when they refuse to do anything to better their current situation that they have been complaining to others about. Do people like that expect others to do the work? I am currently complaining about the amount of apathetic people, so instead of complaining without acting, and therefore being apathetic in my opinion, I have chosen to act to help inform others through United Way and other charity organizations. We each live in a society, and one person alone is not enough to make that society successful. It requires many people working together. I hope that you are not an apathetic person that is being a deadweight in your community/society. By the way, if you were not talking to me (because I am not certain from your overly vague post) then I apologize and hope that the true target of your post responds soon. Sincerely, Keil

I have a question. Is it illegal to feed beer to a dog? Annie (my dog) is getting really fat because our neighbor keeps doing it. he also keeps cutting down/trimming my trees, mowing a straight line through my backyard, and crashing his moped into my mailbox. He drives over fences in a single charge! He laughs at any attempt or request for him to stop! He IS the Evil Neighbor!!! btw, thanks again! we need more people like you!

It can be construed as animal cruelty to feed a dog beer. "But he likes it." is NOT a valid argument as a dog will eat antifreeze spread on toast if you offer it to them. If you can prove it you can bring charges against your neighbor, not to mention all the damage to property... But, I'm a proponent of solving differances through discussion and compromise, personnally. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have tried to talk to him many times, but he's always drunk. I asked him once to quit chasing my cat around the house and he said (and i quote) "I, sir, despite what everyone tells you, am not drunk. I am a messenger of war and have come to tell you that you will die by the end of the week. I could also tell you how it will happen just by looking into your eyes. Yes...but I'll let you wonder. Knowledge is not for people who think too much." It has been a month ago now, and I'm still alive. He has had his liscense permanently revoked because he is drunk so often! There is no resoning with him! Maybe I can video tape him...
