Oh you funny, charming, witty wonders! How COULD I have left you for last, when you do so go out of your way to entertain me and mine? Yes, Sagittarius, the showman and the entertainer, the frankly, brutally honest advisers. And why SHOULDN'T one be honest, how could the truth possibly hurt anyone? Tact is one of the lessons of the Sagittarian. There are others to be sure. But Sagittarians, like all Fire signs are so full of life and energy when they haven't been stomped down into shallow pools of skepticism by the world's non idealistic way of doing things. See, Sag is an idealist at heart, and they'll tell you that they don't believe in any of that Disney crap, but don't you believe it for a second. That's the scars talking. The scars of hoping and having ones hopes dashed to the ground. Of wishing upon a star for a sunny day and waking up in the rain. Eventually, the poor dears come to a point where they think they've hoped once to often and that's IT. (Don't you believe it Sags...you can never hope too often.)They're not anybody's fool, screw that, they're not falling for this crap again...those are the Sags you're most likely to meet (especially the teen Sags.) The activists and the muckrakers that scream for change and rail against the injustices in the world. Sags sees straight to the heart of the matter, and straight to the truth. That's where their symbol, the archer came from. They have the ability to see the target, and they know how to shoot the most blunt and straightforward comments that hit you dead center in the heart. Quite often they do it without thinking that they are doing anything wrong at all. In fact they aren't. They just don't put as much value on tact as they do on honesty and truth. A sneaky, underhanded Sag is a wounded and broken Sag, for they are such frightfully honest people by nature and only learn to lie from the constant pummeling of a cold, deceitful world. Speaking of Disney, 8 times out of 10, Sags are going to be either in or out of the closet Disney fans. My daughter has an enormous collection of Disney films and won't part with them. A large number of friends with Sag partners come up to me and ask for gift ideas. Sport-O gadgets or Disney movies I tell them. Sags love activity, they can't stand to be locked in a box. Freedom is important to them. They are natural thrill seekers, like all of the Fire signs and calm, cool and collected in a crisis if forced to react quickly. (Although they can be hesitant when left to think about it..) Enough of my amateur observations though, let's see what the experts have to say...

"The Sagittarian Archetypes(The Philosopher, the Adventurer and the Free Spirit: I Think, Therefore I Roam The Philosopher Sagittarians display the archetype of the Philosopher because they are, basically, philisophical. Sagittarians approach life with an eye to discovering the meaning of it all. Tey have a uniquely expansive consciousness, which looks beyond the everyday ordinariness of living, and seeks to find clues about the deeper implications of their existence. Whereas other signs are content to make a living, have a family and accept life as it appears, Sagittarians intuitively feel that their life is more important than that: They think it is about learning deeper truths and attaining realizations that, ultimately, will free them. In order to be truly happy, Sagittarians need to feel as if they are immersing themselves in experiences and subjects that give them, and perhaps others, wisdom and insights and a sense of connecting to something grander than ordinary life. As Philosophers, Sagittarians enjoy bringing insight to themselves and others by interpreting life in an upbeat way. They like putting a positive spin on things, and seek to find the Good in all they find. Sagittarians are geniuses at shifting perspective for the better. If someone says its a lousy day because it's overcast and raining, Sagittarians will point out how the landscape is getting nourished and how the atmosphere is kind of cozy... The Sagittarian Philosopher takes the broad perspective on life, focuses on the overall meaning of it, and generally refuses to let the little concerns or setbacks of life get them down. No matter what happens, they will use their philosophy that, "This (whatever 'this' is) isn't so big in the scheme of things," and will do their best to work around any troubles. Indeed, more than any others, Sagittarians have the ability to make any situation a positive, worthwhile one. Perhaps that's why they seem so lucky--they are continually finding ways to use everything to their advantage." - from "You're Every Sign" by Phyllis Firak-Mitz, M.A. (Sagittarius Chapter)

"I don't want to discourage you, but Sagittarian men have this odd habit. They leap on a big, white horse and go charging through the streets, waving a sword and defending causes. Then they have another idiosyncrasy: They tumble around like clowns in a circus, indisciminately mixing with the elephants and the bearded lady, gaily scooping up cotton candy. He can be captured with certain maneuvers. But first you've got to get him down off of that white horse, away from those elephants, and of course the bearded lady has to go. Causes and circuses don't leave much time for family life, let alone sentimental hand-holding. You have one thing going for you right away. So many Sagittarians charge around and tumble through life that you'll have plenty to choose from. Remember the Victor Herbert refrain: "Give me some men who are stout-hearted men, who will fight for the right they adore; Start me with ten, who are stout-hearted men, and I'll soon give you ten thousand more!"? It happens like that. The idealistic enthusiasm and curiosity of a Sagittarian man is contagious. Of course, sometimes his innocent exuberance can get a little out of hand. Like he'll throw you up in the air in a moment of mad, impetuous exhilaration--and forget to catch you." -- from "Sun Signs" by Linda Goodman (Sagittarius Chapter, The Sagittarius Man)

Ahhh...the skeptic... (I did mention the skpticism of Sags right? Comes from having their rainbows slapped out of the sky one too many times. Scorps are just suspicious of things, Virgos generally only believe in what their perceptions and their analysis tell them is true along with the other Earth signs, Gem's have chased the aforementioned rainbows and they always turn out to be something other than what they appeared, Pisces? Not sure...Pisces are dreamers to the Nth degree, and life isn't always exactly a dream.) Ahhh the skeptics...and the funny thing is, none of them actually ever look into it. They just like bitching about the people that do because it fills them with a smug feeling of superiority, or assures them that they're nobody's fool. Tsk tsk..I have studied the matter, you have not. (see also Isaac Newton and Edmund Halley (which may have been a misquote..but eh..)) Ni modo...on with our insights into these fascinating daredevil sages..

I've noticed this incredible ability to concentrate. It's like they can't be interrupted when they're in the middle of something that's grabbed their attention. You'll say, "Hey, check this out!" They'll respond, without looking at you..."Hold on..just a second..just a minute..hold on.." It's really quite amazing for people who are here there and everywhere. Perhaps that's it, perhaps the focus feels good. On to the experts.

"I would say that finding an example of the Sun sign is as easy as rolling off a log, except that isn't true. It's much easier than rolling off a log. Pick any party and look at the center of the liveliest group. See the fellow sitting there happily with his rather large foot stuck in his mouth? He's a Sagittarian who has gone out on a verbal limb, but he doesn't know it yet. When he does, he'll look around slightly bewildered--and the group around him will be looking daggers. The archer will walk up to you, give you a hearty slap on the back and a wide, friendly grin. Then he'll greet you with a remark like, "How the heck do you manage to look so young when you're as old as you are?" Or "Say, that turtleneck sweater sure is flattering. You should wear them all the time. Hides your double chin." After one of these cheery openers, he'll still be wearing his bright grin, but your own smile may start to droop a little. It will take him a while to figure out just what he said that set you back on your heels, and even longer to understand why. THen he'll try to explain. Keep your cool. It gets worse. Golly, didn't you understand what he meant? He thinks it's fabulous to look only twenty-five years old when you're really thirty-eight (which is six years older than you actually are). As for the double chin, lots of people your age have a little flab in the neck region. The only time you can see it is from the side. You know, when you turn your head. Just don't have any pictures taken in profile. After he's carefully explained his verbal goofs and got you feeling all better again, he'll go on his merry way, whistling a tune from the latest Broadway show. When you cut him dead the next time you meet, he'll be heartbroken--and puzzled. There's no use getting angry or embarrassed. Sagittarius is completely free of malice. He blurts out his shockingly direct speech in total innocence. The fact that he usually adds insult to injury when he tries to fix it also escapes him. Don't judge him too harshly. He means well. Not that he needs your sympathy--or mine. Under his tactless manner is an extremely clever mind and high standards. His unique combination of wit, intelligence and fiery drive usually brings the archer straight to the winner's circle. What really gets you is that both male and female Sagittarians are completely oblivious to their own blunt speech. They are truly convinced that they are the most diplomatic souls in the world. They're always saying, " Why I wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings for anything. I'm very careful about that." And they honestly believe it. In fact, everything they do is done honestly. Pretense and deception in any form appalls them." - from "Sun Signs" by Linda Goodman (Sagittarius Chapter) There is something about Fire signs and the winner's circle. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius..all usually competitive and all usually good at what they do. As for the large feet, there's a pattern of elongation that manifests itself in many Sagittarian people. As if their feet and hands and fingers have been stretched. The Ascendant, and Ascendant ruler's poistion are also very important in determining this.

i'm all for skepticism. if i'm going to adopt something into my brain, or acknowledge it as truth, i'm sure as hell going to poke it from every angle first. i've hollered more than once that i see no reason why astrology should work (except that it's a commonly held belief and thus given power, but i'm still shaky on that). but i am a typical saggitarius. but i have a handful of horoscopes pasted into journals, because when i saw them, i burst out laughing beause they were so dead on to what was going on. i had daf do a chart for me, and it seemed ungodly accurate. i went over it with a fine-tooth come, citing what i believed to be true, false, or ambiguous (either didn't state a strong fact or could be true either way). though i disagreed with some bits, i found overwhelmingly that the reading was accurate. as i said, i'm a skeptic, and astrology infuriates me by working. so i had daf do a second chart for me, still saggitarius but with all other info changed. i edited out any telling signs (the actual personal info, and the couple of places that year spans are missing), printed both out, and handed the "eggman" and the "walrus" reading to five friends. i've heard back from three of them, and each correctly identified the proper chart with a good amount of certainty. scientific study? not quite. free from any bias? not entirely, though i taxed the brain muscles to try to see things from every angle and opposite. but it's enough for me to say, yes, there's something to this shtuff, something that vagueness and creative interpretation and will to believe does not cover. take it as you will, and definitely poke at it yourself; just my ohsohumble and ohsostrong opinoin that it is worth investigation before you dismiss it.

The zodiac is divided into twelve zones of the sky, each named after the constellation that originally fell within its zone (Taurus, Leo, etc.). The apparent paths of the sun, the moon, and the major planets all fall within the zodiac. Because of the precession of the equinoxes, the equinox and solstice points have each moved westward about 30 degrees in the last 2,000 years. Thus, the zodiacal constellations named in ancient times no longer correspond to the segments of the zodiac represented by their signs. In short, had you been born at the same time on the same day of the year 2,000 years ago, you would have been born under a different sign.

i'm too lazy (maybe that's my taurus nature) to continue to cut and paste the key tidbits. i'll just put the link instead. if it makes people feel good, daf, and that's your real goal, then that is fine. but selling hogwash as truth is a more insidious proposition.

i am a sagittarius by birth. i did a personality questionaire and from that it would tell you what sign "you really are". mine came up as scorpio. since i was born november 28, i am rather close to being a scorpio. i do feel i fit very closely into both signs more so than any any others in the zodiac. i'm not sure why but i think astrology has alot of truth.

i should have mentioned that in theory sag and virgo are not a match made in heaven. but please take that with a_grain_of_salt. although not the best match, it just might take extra work to keep the relationship running smoothly. it might be slightly easier with someone like aries, or leo.
