more to the point, when the two meanings are completely opposite, yet simultaneously true. like shroedinger's cat, but you're looking at it. like the distance from 0 to 1 is measurable, yet there are infinite points in between. like socio-capitalism. mmm... sweet, sweet paradox...

Paradox simultaneously drives us to new heights and frustrates us to the point of breaking something valuable. It is what we try to understand but never achieve, because through understanding of paradox comes and understanding of divinity. mmm..... paradox... sweet sweet paradox :)

I want to spend all day, with my eyes closed - daydreaming/nightdreaming about the love of my life. Who isn't the love of my life. He is Josh. And I don't know Josh. Only vaguely. But since we spent a little bit of time together establishing how wonderful the other is - all I can think about is how I want to be with him. But rationally I know that I don't know him very well, and that I am blinded. And certainly I'm not seeing him for himself, rather for who I want him to be. But in my dreams he loves me. And makes me feel perfect. In life, I can't say how he feels since I am not him, but I can introspect that he is a little confused, and very hesitant. Though, maybe he's only confused and hesitant because I want him to be. But in either case, I have established expectations which will lead me to getting hurt. So I tell myself "******, (I blot out my name for privacy reasons) Stop thinking about him!" Seems easy enough to do - but it doesn't happen. I can't stop thinking about him even though I know I will get hurt, and be much more happy and productive with those thoughts out of my head. So I continue to think, and these thoughts interfere with my school work and my social life - making me unhappy. But I am not happy unless I am thinking about him. So I have created for myself my own little paradox.

ok this isn't really so much a paradox as it is a logic statement, but it's a VERY unique logic statement that I call an oscillating logic statement, because it FLIP-FLOPS in it's logic forever. Here it is: - This sentance contains three erors. - - - Now I could just leave it to each to decipher the meaning of this "oscillating logic statement" on one's own, but that would be too easy and, more importantly, it would in effect disregard the vast majority of you who are now reading this blather with vacuous stares and vacant expressions. (I also can't bear to discriminate agenst yoo speleeng chalinjd tipes.) So we count the spelling errors and we find that there are only two. The word sentence is misspelled as sentance and errors as erors. In order to find our third error we have to realize that the number THREE is a word in the sentence and since the sentence only contains TWO errors, the word THREE should be replaced with the word TWO. So the word THREE is the third error. That makes the logic statement TRUE. However if the word THREE is the third error then there ARE 3 errors in the sentence and the word THREE is not an error anymore. That makes the logic statement FALSE. But if the word THREE is not an error then the sentence contains only TWO errors. This makes the word THREE an error again. Giving the sentence THREE errors. That makes the logic statement TRUE again. And so on and so on. Pretty neat huh? - -

there are three errors in this sentence. (replying to a post from several months ago) the version i've seen actually has no spelling errors at all. the error is in the message; there aren't three errors, there's only one: the sentence is false. the idea being that we need to look at the big picture. i saw it on a t-shirt. it made me happy to figure it out.

The Paradox of our Time The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; We have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've split the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition. These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw-away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete. ^^^^i didn't write this but I wish I had

only you can understand you. but if this logic works... it's only natural to want to feel connected. connections created and nursed the universe. therefore wewanttobefriendswitheveryone. but the universe does random things and one of those is to make us struggle to survive. to survive we are willing to step over others. to break connections, or to HATE. therefore it is natural to wanttobefriendswitheveryone, and it is natural to hateeveryone. it is paradoxical, but finitely so. we must want to connect more than we want to disconnect. this is a natural issue as well. is the part of the brain which seeks to destroy stronger than the part of the brain which seeks to connect? if all were equal, our strongest impulse would be to love and hate simultaneously. does the part of our brain which consciously wants this connection of connection and disconnection outpower the unconscious part which seeks to desire? the matter is then scientific, and not paradoxical. but only if is good enuf at math.
