Patience Patience is a virtue the nuns, even if knowing, caring not what we'd be waiting for, taught us to grit our teeth to practice; so that I do now, while sweating tomorrows' exundish mists with morning shortbread cakes I wait to buy, for you, with coffee from grounds fresh I wait to make, for you, and all the sweet excitement exploring so many things, with you, between now and every then; but never too early, rest is as important as patience, you know, after collapsing exhausted together from such intense heat. When things get hard and the day is going to hell in a handbasket, Ihear people remark "I wish this day was over!" or during the course of a workweek they`ll say "I wish this was Friday" I say "Are you in a hurry to get to the grave?"

It is the projected point of freedom that people are in such a hurry to reach. There is no unambiguous cartesian-coordinated destination. It's like driving. Driving and passing. People don't necessarily speed because they are late (although this can well be the case). Those people who are just habitually passing and maneuvering and pushing and prodding their way, impatiently, forward -- it's not to get to the end the fastest, but to be in front; to have that space, and that freedom, and be not forced to go at anyone else's pace (even if it turns out that that pace is pretty much the same pace as you would choose anyway -- which explains those people who pass you just to go the exact same speed).

"You kiss me so perfectly, it's what I always imagined it would be like to kiss myself." At first I wanted to laugh, I thought he meant he was the perfect kisser. No, he means the way we move together, the way we play in synchronous nibbles and smacks. "And the way you know where to stroke behind my ears. You went right for it, that one special place that no one knows to go." "I've read the book," I joke. Flipping him over, I pin him on his back and sit atop his chest. "This isn't what I want," I protest, "You shouldn't be here now." He knows what I mean. Had he not been lost, I'd have never taken him in. Had he not been so forthright, I'd have never been enchanted. It wasn't supposed to be this easy, I'm not supposed to want him yet. "No worries," he assures me, "I've got plenty of time." And that's the way it is with him. There aren't any worries. When I'm uptight, he works me back out; when I'm angry, he calms me; when I panic and feel trapped, he lets me loose and tells me he'll be waiting. He says he knows this is right, and he's got references to prove it. (For what it's worth, I'm starting to believe him.)

"be patient," said grandma. "it's all part of that reverse-hyperbole thing. my breasts'll be shiny and good as new before you can say 'geraldina skipping in a train pile'. you just wait." grandpa fell to the floor, dead of a train wreck and avascular cabbage. post-nasal cottage cheese was his game in life, and he could not help but be mounted in death. grandma rocked on top of his docile erection as he slept and dreamt of nothing.

"be patient," grandma kept repeating, "he'll wake." she said that for 80 days. mostly because she was emulating the record player that grandpa shoved up her ass back in the 50's. grandpa, undead, recollects; "ah, yes, the record player incident. we were snorting sushi, discussing rabies, not a day has passed that i don't remember my fuckin name." "well that's alzheimer's," the purple swan figurine inserted. "be patient," grandma added, "the universe wheels itself around like two hummingbirds after frantic melee. it all appears to be more serious than hatred, but it's actually a lot simpler, like waving."

"Passion has little to do with euphoria and everything to do with patience. It is not about feeling good. It is about endurance. Like patience, passion comes from the same Latin root: pati. It does not mean to flow with exuberance. It means to suffer." * *Daphne Kaplan's The Courage to Withstand (Hopewell, NJ: Ecco Press, 1996), p. iii.

patience room mate to prudence and twice removed sisters.. prudence never went out of style she just tired of being laughed at as virtue called a cliche' and making silly films with her name in the title, in the 60's and mannerly,as she can be but they don't care fascinatin on their underwear.. prudence is waiting patiently and patience never ends and waits prudently..nearby.. down the hall at the left pink and blue door small flowers on top very kind.. thinking mild.. a quality of love patience a quality of decency prudence when love and decency kiss mercy will smile down on their reunion.. then the two sisters re unite and smile on time.. as it was.. or could be.. but not now.. not these days much anymore.. I went off to skip around that dim park late at night And you stared at me, wondering and I teased you by leaving and skipping and strumming and humming I intrigued myself and fought unicorns and wore wizard caps and blew bubbles out of blue submarines in bottomless seas and I struggled and pondered and wished and thought how many thoughts can I think while I sought battles in the darkness until I grew tired, making me wonder that you might be gone so I carelessly stuffed my raging wizardry back into my pockets a few spells haphazardly still stringing to and fro and strided back wondering can you heal wounds while blowing bubbles at green gallbladdered dragons? and, do you have an extra pocket? and I sat next to you (careful not to sting the unicorn bite on my arm) with eyesful of wonder that you were still there and you smiled at my unicorn bite

I still have patience for the big things in life... my patience for all the little things is challenged lately though. for me patience = easy_going, calm, confident (that it will be ok and come when needed). I am more often stressed, frustrated, insecure, and even angry lately. It comes in waves though, I will recover my patience, but I might not wait patiently for its return...
