My friend and I like to go out for sushi. We will drive in the pouring rain for sushi. We will spend our last dollar for sushi. We would do anything for some sticky rice, shrimp, piece of chive, and sesame seeds. However the pickled ginger and the wasabi paste are expendables, we don't like the taste sensation they offer.

once, during an outing with Brenda, ages ago...we stopped into a little sushi bar neither of us had ever tried it before i made the mistake of thinking that the wasabi was something like avocado and applied a liberal dab to my yellowtail roll as soon as the taste hit me and my breth ran out of me, i fell out of my chair, provoking a mix of concern and laughter from my lunchtime companion embarassing, but still pretty funny, i suppose

fish so good. Learned to love it in Japan. Now I look for good sushi, but none can be found. I look high, I look low, I even look meduim high and low. But no good sushi. I live in a hick town. They are uncultured. HICK! So now I guess that I will have to eat raw beef to make me feel warm inside. I hope I don't angry cow disease. I don't want to be an argry cow. Glad there isn't mad fish disease

What everyone thinks is sushi is really what is called shashime. (Im not sure how to spell it.) Sushi just consist of rice rolled in seaweed. Shashime is raw fish

dear freak, you can have rolls of rice surrounded by seaweed, with raw fish inside. I think that's what people are referring to. But sashimi is good too.

He likes sushi and sashimi, I tried them and really liked them too. We went once, he said it was good, not as good as it could have been in California or actually in Japan. California rolls are a travisty, he says. They are not sushi, they are just rip-off American food that is called sushi, but is just something to make Americans think they like sushi. It was funny to hear him rant like that. I love him.

I absolutely adore sushi/sashimi/all-that-stuff. Altho wasabi IS an acquired taste. The first time I tried it, I think I put about a grain or so on my tuna, and drank half a glass of water with it. Now I eat it like candy. Mmmmm, candy... I mean, sushi....

Now about the wasabi/jalapeny0 phenom: According to researchers, the reason we become hooked on these examples of Culinary Masochism is that the pain causes the brain to send natural painkillers to the affected area of the body..in this case, to the mouth which, with the brain is located in the head. It's food that gets you high. Which could explain why I never could STAND the taste of peppers (still can't really), but just sent my youngest daughter to the corner store for some pickled jalapenyos and carrots. Mmmmmm.

as i walked by, i remembered that i had not eaten for a day or so, and i went in. all i had was a few bites - even though i felt like fainting - i was just too sad to eat. but the hot water was just enough to remind me that i am alive and comfort is sometimes found in things that are warm...
