in high falls new york there is a dry, bedrock creek bed which you can walk up. about 1/8th of a mile upstream from lucas hwy there is a hole in the bedrock into which is stuffed a tree to which is nailed some wood which makes a ladder. climb down the ladder about 18 feet to a small cavern in full darkness cut by the rushing creek that now flows underground. this is pompies cave. it goes down stream through 2 rooms before it becomes impassible. it was named after pompie, a civil war era slave, hiding out on the underground railway. you might make a plush jellyfish.

hello thorn... last week i had my cousin's apartment all for myself since she went on vacation to some tropical island. of course i had friends over pretty much every night - it was very much fun. on the weekend however, i decided it would be a good idea to go out and get really drunk. so drunk that i blacked out and woke up the next morning in my best friend's car back seat with vomit all over myself. when i asked why the hell we didn't go back to the apartment and passed out there my friend informed that i lost the keys to the place. as it turned out it was true. consequently, the two cats that my cousin had so ardently asked me to take care of starved for almost two days until i tracked down the landlord and managed to get him to open the door for me. since i took so long to get the place open i lost out on a hot date monday night. i was expecting to get laid and the outlooks looked pretty damn good, but of course that didn't happen and all i got were blue balls. furthermore, when i finally got in, one of the cats, driven by a feeling of disappointment and anger, attacked me and left marks all over my leg and hands, another cat shit all over the place.

dearest thorn, this weekend i went to a deftones concert. i love music, but i have never really enjoyed actual concerts as much as i think i am going to. this concert was different. it was the first hard-rock (i guess it can be called this) concert i have really been too. it was basically an hour long mosh pit, which was amazing. for some reason i love pushing people and being pushed and jumping and rocking out with other people i have never met and will probably never see again. most people who casually meet me probably think i am this nice girl who is likely against any kind of violence. i think it is funny that everyone is wrong about me. i think it is funny that people can go to a concert and push/shove people around and actually have fun. a place where anger and violence is fun. i just think it is weird.

i tend to be attracted to guys who wear black, or have black hair. i think it is interesting that everyone wants to be different but by wanting to be different, people tend to end up being the more the same. (this makes more sense in my head than written down) people who get 7 hours of sleep per night on average have a longer life expectancy than any other amounts of sleepage (maybe this means i will die before i get alzheimers) people often get discouraged when they are not good at something. i say, if you like doing it, it doesn't matter whether you are good at it or not.

thorn, i am watching the sopranos. i am halfway through season 3, and i started watching 2 weeks ago. i think im addicted. on the plus side, i am going to the opening game for the SF giants with my dad tomorrow. that will be good. also next week is spring break, and i plan on getting drunk at some point, and that will be fun. coincidentally, i also went to a deftones concert last week. there were a bunch of bands i didnt like there, but deftones are my favorite band so it made up for it. i missed dredg though. but i did see this band pelican, they were an instrumental band. it was nice to hear good music without having it ruined by that stereotypical trendy emo voice thats so prevalent in so many bands these days. people seem to have forgotten that music doesnt have to have vocals, and that applies to modern rock bands too. i bought their cd after i got home. its good. i recommend it. i just got new glasses today. my old ones got crushed at the show while i was trying to put them in their case. i dont really like the new frames, theyre too squareish. im gonna start wearing contacts again, i think. im not sure if any of that qualifies as "interesting" but if not, oh well.

Dear Z, That is way cool, about the cave. I like caves. Do people do anything in there now? And thank you for the suggestion, I also like jellyfish. I will make it once I get over the killer attack of apathy and non-motivation with which I am currently afflicted.

Dearest walrie, I know exactly what you mean, that is why I love concerts. I am glad you had fun, that is cool. Concerts are cool because you can kind of relax and just mess around with people and hear loud music. I too like black hair and black clothing, but not when it's badly done. I know what you mean, people are trying to be non-conforming but by trying to do that they are conforming to the non-conforming stereotype. (That also did not make sense but I know what you meant.) I made a (bad) text art thing about that a few years ago, I should redo it. In that case, I will also die sooner, as I usually get either 4-5 hours or 9-10. That is a good outlook to have, in my opinion. I try to think like that, it doens't always work for me though.

Dear poet, Is the sopranos good? I've heard it is, but never really gotten around to getting into it. Is/was your spring break good? I very much like instrumental music, I agree about some music being ruined by voices. Pelican is pretty good, do you like Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed You Black Emperor? What color are your glasses? Contacts are weird, I was too lazy to deal with them and would almost put my eye out when I tried to put them in in the morning. It is interesting, I just like to see what people have to say.

hola thorn yeah, the sopranos is good, and addictive to the degree that i imagine heroin must be. if you choose to get into it, be careful, because it will likely suck up hours and hours of your free time. i borrowed the first 3 seasons from a friend and ive spent almost all of my free time (and some time that wasnt really free) watching them. my spring break was sort of a bust. i spent way too much time doing things that were not fun and far too little time doing fun things. i did not get drunk. buuuttt... the fun parts of my break were awesome. ive never heard of either of those bands but i will definitely be checkin them out my glasses are "Gunmetal". i know that because they didnt have them in the matte black and this is the closest they had. yeah im way lazy on contacts too, but its so nice to not have glasses on your face and to be able to do whatever you want without having to think about your glasses falling off or whatever, so im willing to make the sacrifice. so i started wearing them again, but unfortunately there was a recall on the contact lens cleaning solution that i use ('bausch and lomb' brand, if people with contacts read this, you oughta check to make sure youre not using the recalled product), so im back to the glasses for a bit. heres to hoping i dont go blind, eh?

usually when i feel alone (often) i listen to music, or play guitar or drums or any musical instrument and that calms me down. or go on blather. and if all else fails i just poison my brain with shitty tv. not the best solution, i know.

Hey thorn, do you think people want to be different or more significant, or perhaps simply desire to know who they are? Would a person be happy knowing who they are even if that was a plain and simple person OR would they be happy being utterly unique and significant to the world but without a firm grasp of what who they are means to them personnally?
|

This is tell_thorn, not ask_thorn, but I will answer your question anyway. I think the majority of people think that they want to be significant and important, etc, and that if they were they would be happy, but really they just want to know who they themselves are. I also think it depends on the specific person or type of person. I think some people would be happy knowing themselves, even if they're plain, and others would be happy the other way. I think I personally would be happy being unique but not really knowing who I am, and I certainly want to be unique, but I also think that a lot of times, what we want isn't what's necessarily good for us, so I don't really know. Short answer: I think the majority of people (people I would consider boring working middle class people) would be happy knowing themselves and being plain, even though they think they wouldn't, and other people wouldn't be happy like that. But it depends on the person, and I don't think I know what I'm talking about. (if this sounds completely insane, it's because I'm exhausted, and I'll make it better tomorrow)

dear everyone, for mixed media, i have four square 18"x18" painted panels. on the panels, i am making a ribcage, a pelvis, arms, and legs (1 for each) out of different materials. the ribs are out of photos. the concept is that we are the product of our experiences/if we are not, what are we? i need more ideas for what to make the other parts (other than the ribs) out of. i thought condoms and tampons for the hips, but thought i might get in trouble. (this is for school, but it is for the school specifically for art referenced on thorn's_space, so i am not sure how much i can get away with.) any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. love, .
