Courtyard Lullaby Wherein the deep night sky, the stars lie in its embrace. The courtyard still in its sleep, and peace comes over your face. 'Come to me' it sings. 'Hear the pulse of the land, the ocean's rhythms pull, to hold your heart in its hand.' And when the wind draws strong, across the cypress trees. The nightbirds cease their songs, so gathers memories. Last night you spoke of a dream, where forests stretched to the east. And each bird sang it's song, a unicorn joined in a feast. And in a corner stood, a pomegranate tree. With wild flowers there, no mortal eye could see. Yet still some mystery befalls, sure as the cock crows at morn. The world in stillness keeps, The secret of babes to be born. I heard an old voice say, 'Don't go far from the land. The seasons have their way, no mortal can understand.' - Loreena McKennitt

loreena is wonderful the sun coming up on my drunken eyes i would love more than anything to love you the pain rising upon my small mind i would love more than anything to be with you don't you see all i want is to love you why is that you are blind to the people that love you right under your nose? i would hold you to wait and see what grows love you more than anything never used to cry in my sleep

I prefer something less "10-year-old-girl"ish. Something like: Ode to Brewskis by Roger Dafremen Often in the holds of time Lies hidden through the years A bitter sort of mellow rhyme Of bitter mellow beers Sing a distant lullaby To quench insistent thirst Watch as bottles flutter by More beers follow the first Golden sparkling misty brew Sore sight to misty eyes Heal the soul and soon renew Insistent lullabies or maybe: No Curtain Call by Roger Dafremen Not once did I among the few Call after you and hope to die To tumbled echoes rattling Along the ragged edge of sanity No band played on for you and I No credits rolled to our demise No clever sense of irony Did lend to our finality Sweet, sweet and blissful calm Whose waves wash to serenity And vanity is pushed away Instead deep insecurity Grim fears of hope of saving fate Of twisted once-upon-a-times Which menace my dementia This oft sought melancholy Now off with you, I did not call I do not wait, nor do we all Begone, farewell go to what awaits Fade into your happily-ever-after. or perhaps: Final Rest by Roger Dafremen Into the gray and the pain passed away While the darkness around stole the dread. Into the still as behind me the shrill Cries of grief became silence instead. Into the light which surrounded by night Drew me closer as moth to a flame. Into the calm a soul soothing balm On through peace and through more of the same. Into the new and the unknown I flew Apprehension I knew but felt less. Into this place into death's sweet embrace Into knowing at last final rest.

A NEW POEM...woohoo! One Look At You by Roger Dafremen Turned my head to look at you Perhaps to pry a smile or two From this oft-stoney heart Turned my heart to look at you And warm and longing through and through Like passion's desire on Ritalin Turned way, can't look at you Tempting tempestuous love-shrouded torture Lurking pain waiting to pounce and devour my dignity, my soul Turned for one last look at you Perhaps to pry a smile or two From this oft-lonely heart. - - -

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes, Smiles await you when you rise, Sleep, pretty baby, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby. Cares you know not, therefore sleep, While over you a watch I'll keep. Sleep pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby.

arm around your neck, tangled bodies, whispered fragments of words left unsaid and thoughts sent swirling into the unknown tingling touch, pausing to grasp shoulders and minds and hearts darkness portrayed cold, unwanting, undeserving, to witness such miracles. but wrapping itself around us, it has allowed us to truely live. sleep comes readily, in the safety of your arms.

Lullaby of a serial killer Sinking in your silver skys You feed off fear, absorb the cries Blackened dreams of broken lives These girls are daughters, mothers, wives Blood red screams embrace the mind Battered bodies left to find Deep blue coulds of sickened bliss Roll upon this one last kiss Floating on magenta high Innocence taken, left to die Purple echoes seem to soar As you want, you crave for more But climb down off your golden moon Run to shadows, for day breaks soon

Death of a Rose
|
Lay your sleeping head, my love, Human on my faithless arm; Time and fevers burn away Individual beauty from Thoughtful children, and the grave Proves the child ephemeral: But in my arms till break of day let the living creature lie, Mortal, guilty, but to me The entirely beautiful. Soul and body have no bounds: To lovers as they lie upon Her tolerant enchanted slope In their ordinary swoon, Grave the vision Venus sends Of supernatural sympathy, Universal love and hope: While an abstract insight wakes Among the glaciers and the rocks The hermit's sensual ecstasy. Certainty, fidelity On the stroke of midnight pass Like vibrations of a bell And fashionable madmen raise Their pedantic boring cry; Every farthing of the cost, All the dreaded cards foretell, Shall be paid, but from this night Not a whisper, not a thought, Not a kiss nor look be lost. Beauty, midnight, vision dies: Let the winds of dawn that blow Softly round your dreaming head Such a day of sweetness show Eye and knocking heart may bless, Find the mortal world enough; Noons of dryness see you fed By the involuntary powers, Nights of insult let you pass Watched by every human love. W.H. Auden (1907 - 1973) .

My arsenal of lullabies is borked. I realize now that my mom almost never sang a whole song. I know all these parts of songs she used to sing. And I know all these happy Jesus songs from the last school I taught at. And I know all these angsty rock songs. And finally some songs in Spanish from elementary school. So I don't know one single decent lullaby The audience is pretty forgiving, though.
