lost terrorist are people who put their ideas into actions in the wrong way. if they just came to the U.S and had a conversation with our leaders maybe we could help them. has anyon noticed that when something happens to some other country the U.S. runs to help them but when anything happens to us nobody helps us in any way. thats fucked up. 010913
...
silentbob uhh yeah
thats just why all these countries have become our allies
and they know we can help ourselves
and as a matter of fact, the terrorists have been trying to talk to us for years into helping them and we always turn our backs. we turned our backs on them just three weeks ago in south africa at a meeting about racism, we walked out three days into it because we didn't want to talk to them. maybe they just got sick of being ignored.

lost yeah i dont really try to keep current with everything that our government is doing i was just saying that if they didnt do that they should have. 010913

silentbob true. 010913

redrobo well, we did turn our backs on them but that was after they deeply insulted Israel for being rascist or something (u kno an antirascism meeting goes wrong when ppl start making rascist comments) so US being ally pulled out of the meeting with Israel 010913

It Shouldnt Matter Like everyone else, I think what terrosist do and have done and will continue to do sucks. I am against it, and it's too bad people have to resort to that in order to express their unhappiness, whatever it may be.
But... there is always another side to the story. I love America, and everything it stands for, but sometimes, this country has used, and still uses its power in the world to back those countries that represent the USA's interests in any way, and go against or not support countries that are in one way or another don't have anything valuable to offer the US.
So when people in such countries feel oppressed, and there is nothing in the world that they can do to speak out against this oppression, they may very easily feel like terrorism is their only option. Sad but true.
So before you say "NUKE EM" or before you judge somebody in who's shoes you would never want to walk in, think about it from the other perspective.

Wannabe martyrs floundering in extremism. That's all they'll ever be. The moment we say they are anything but that is when they've completed their "mission".

Sonya I don't work for the government if you (whoever you are) are asking me. How are people to fight against martyrs though? That's what I'd like to know.

The US should not be immediately absolved of all responsibility in what happened, but it should not be held 100% accountable either.

Still...I like to think people don't have to resort to mass murder in order to get their points across. (Though I've yet to see a point to Sept. 11th other than sadistic insanity.) I believe in pacifism but it seems that it's not a very popular philosophy these days...oh well. And as for the government - I lose more faith in this system each day that passes. Yes America is great, and we have our freedom, but we must not forget that no country is ever 100% perfect.

I don't know what to say about the terrorists except for the fact that I feel sorry for them since they felt so desperate that they had to resort to this stuff. What a world...

mendez the amazing spanish jew a lot of this wouldn't be happening if we would stop bending over every time Jerusalem asks us to

as a (admittedly not particularly devout) jew, i think i can say that without being labeled as an anti-semite

now where's my knish, dammit?
011112

piercedjenny I am a firm believer that Ghandi had a point, that Martin Luther King Jr had a point in his speech about Violence being Immoral. Pacifism is the way to go, although it normally isn't followed by world leaders because pacifism doesn't get our patriotic hearts soaring with pride or start the war machines.

I think its sad that some of the people the US fights are people that were created by the US to fight other wars. Saddam Hussein, good man when we needed his support against Iran, baaaaad man now. Bin Laden? US ally in the 80's when we needed him and his people to fight Soviet expansion, now Most Wanted. Perhaps the US government should spend a little more time looking at the long range effect of teaching people in positions of power how we react to events rather than allowing the events to happen and then wondering why.

I'm not saying that we are responsible for the 9-11 attacks, nor am I heartless enough to say we asked for it. My ex died because he went to work that day, and that sucks. I am saying there is political accountability, which is something the government is afraid to own up to.

no a wise bastard once said: "All major cities are evacuated, the military is on full alert, and parades are tossing candi to children in Palastine. Tossing it to kids who have no idea what they are cheering about, or what it means. One day they could be shot and killed by a US soldier over an issue that their rightous parents started."

yeah, same as some asshole american saying to his son 'let's go out and kill us some towelheads.' isn't it rather hypocritical for you saying it's horrible when a group of people cheering after they kill innocent people in america for their nation? We did it with Hiroshima. V-J Day had not only one big ass parade, but also nationwide parties and general cheering. And before you say "Gee, the bombing of Hiroshima was done for a reason. These attacks were without precedent and uncalled for." Oh really? Anybody think of:

The shooting down of two Libyan planes in 1981;
The bombardment of Beirut in 1983 and 1984;
The bombing of Libya in 1986;
The bombing and sinking of an Iranian ship in 1987;
The shooting down of an Iranian passenger plane in 1988;
The shooting down of two more Libyan planes in 1989;
The massive bombing of the Iraqi people in 1991;
The continuing bombings and sanctions against Iraq;
The bombing of Sudan and Afghanistan in 1998;
The habitual support of Israel despite its destructiveness and routine torture, and condemnation of Arab resistance to this;
The double standard applied to Israeli terrorism, such as the willful massacre of 106 Lebanese at the UN base at Qana in 1996;
The continued persecution of Libya, now nearing the end of its second decade;
The abduction of wanted men from Muslim countries, such as Malaysia, Pakistan, Lebanon and Albania;
The large military and hi-tech presence in Islam's holiest land, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere in the Persian Gulf region.

Seems to me these guys have a lot of reasons to fuck with America.

silentbob in mob wars civilians only die when they get in the way or in the crossfire. in government wars governments attack each other's people, not their each other.
and in this "war" we're bombing a country that houses terrorists, because we said we would.
imagine how you would feel if a group of psychos just started doing random violent acts somewhere in another country, so that country bombed the entire united states, or the general vicinity of where they were assumed to be.

i don't know how affective this "war" is

freakizh it's awesome how much 'power' does a single person has.

first, as a president, you've the power to the destroy a county (if you have the resources to).

then, as a terrorist, a whole country fears you because with one word, you can actually make two planes to crash your country's symbol-like skyscraper. and kill people with white weird powder.

what makes a terrorist different from a normal person, besides the ability to cause terror?
how come a single group of middle east habitants can make nervous the most powerful country in the world?

maybe they've nothing to lose.
020529
...
dB What makes a terrorist different from an ordinary person?
In answer to that:

A terrorist will do whatever it takes to be free. They'll bomb, shoot, crash and tear apart anything that oppresses them.
Your average terrorist has growen up under a very harsh regime, through no fault of his own. His country has been repeatedly raped by other countries. His people have been tortured and killed. he has been in shitty living conditions his whole life. He's lived in a country where someone will shoot you for not saying 'praise ala' at precisely mid day.

All this is not his fault.
He is very very angry.

But why is he a terrorist? Simply because he is terrified.
020529
...
freakizh similarly to what you said dB, being over-comforted is what condems people. if they were as desperate and needed as a terrorist looking for attention, then people will have the power to defend themselves.

it's funny. U.S.A. is huge. has millions of habitants, each one with the potential of being as dangerous as a terrorist. then, what are they afraid of?

they can't be terrorist, right?.
because then i would turn everything in a downward_spiral. and they have a family, a job, a life to lose.

that's my upper post bottomline.
020529
...
silentbob hmmm
i dont believe terrorists are different from "other-people"
and it was never really ever figured out who sent anthrax.
it COULD just be a coincidence that america was hating the Taliban at the same time people started getting anthrax in the mail. it wasn't necessarily them.
i wouldn't be surprised either way. if it was or wasn't.
every part of the world has terrorists. not just the middle east. there are terrorists of every race.
020529
...
dB That's true.
I think most of the anthrax was from sent by americans anyway. Either it was all hoaxes or some crazy american kid playing games.
020529
...
silentbob you think all the anthrax was hoaxes? like the people who got it just SAID they got it and they didn't REALLY get it? 020530
...
dB not all of it. sorry that was my bad.
I meant MOST of the anthrax scares were exactly that, some were genuine, but very few.
020530
...
freakizh anyway, it is a bizarre coincidence.
it's like a sudden call for everyone to say 'let's go and attack america'.

the anthrax thing was cool. it was like a phantom menace. people were dying and some white power was present to blame. maybe the government just assigned who was guilty and who was not to calm the hunger of angry/affected americans for revenge. who would know.

terrorist freak show.
let's see what happens on july the 4th.
