"As the man who had cleared his throat drew up and raised his machete, Okonkwo looked away. He heard the blow. The pot fell and broke in the sand. He heard Ikemefuna cry, "My father, they have killed me!" as he ran towards him. Dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought weak." from "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe

this was the year he fell to pieces and ironically this was the year when more people than he knew even existed scrambled to put him back together again, and as they tried they dont notice that he was smiling, smiling his ass off. oh what have we become, oh what have you become, not allowed to kick the feet up and sleep until its done. ground control, ground control to major tom, we found a hole in your theory and we named it sean. so when the leaves fall the land looks more human, its got me questioning the essence of my farm-boy blues hence i never wore the fashions of the know-what-im-doing but there wont be no alarm when we sound up the movement. a river runs through it until im made out of fluid. my fathers name is art and my names pride, and while my destiny reads the recipe for confusion im looking for whoever writes so empty inside. as the paneling comes unglued im averaging a camel every hour as a substitute for food, standing in this field waiting for the storm, trying to teach the alphabet to the children of the corn and YO the music aint LOUD enough, i can still here the voices in your head, the choices theyve chosen to choose temporarily impaired me and im terribly proud and if you dont turn it up louder ... im breaking out, i face the sun when i talk and i hold his hand as i walk him across the street, got caught inside of a self taught it just dont stop and ill trade you a parable for a probably so kick this one for st paul and this for minnieapolis and kick this one here for me and my super hero complex, and when i can im gonna build a castle that touches the clouds, not to get closer to god, but to get further from y'all. - S.D.

There's some kind of pride in being the one who always finishes her midterms before an hour goes by. Even if I know that I'll get the worst mark in the class, I cannot sit still for longer than an hour and regurgitate useless crap that will not have any bearing on my future life. Silly pride.

the people who ask for my help i really make a point to help...and they are the ones who gush over my modesty and how great i am. i just give them a puzzled look. the people who self-righteously expect my help i really make a point to ignore...and they are the ones who call me arrogant, stuck up, and pompous. i give them puzzled looks too. personally i would say i can be very proud and very bitchy, but only when people treat me like some sort of freak or a toy.

Recently i have found that everyone around me, annoys me. I feel that i am better than all of them, i am arrogant and i know i am, i am ignorant of many things also, but fewer than most. The problem is i cant find anyone who thinks like me, being different, having too much pride, is lonely.

I believe (and there is no reason for others to believe it, unless you're Buddhist or Christian) that pride is wrong, unless it is pride in God and in God's blessings. Example, hm. Loving your family (or taking undue pride in them) might cause you to stick with a horrible job, or keep you from traveling to help the Bosnians, if that's what you should be doing. Pride in cars is just plain wrong. Um, um um um pride in your appearance makes one vain, and poisons the attention you receive, 'cause they just want to bask in your glow. Pride in your intellect, or your philosophies, makes one stubborn, arrogant and obnoxious.

pride often leads to superiority; not really a good thing especially in a spiritual context there is some kind of subtle difference between respect and pride. respect is doing something to the best of your ability. pride is doing something and thinking its the best way in the universe. the universe has a way of toppling those who think they should always be at the top. mountains are made to crumble. pride perpetuates an illusion of hierarchy. pride fuels wars and hate and racism. pride is the opposite of equanimity. a rooster with a puffed chest finds himself the target of sharp beaks

I am attracted to the proud lion (Leo). I do find them to be too cocky sometimes, but overall, I'll take pride over insecurity any day. Also, it is hard to resist a proud man if you, too, agree with all the things he's proud about.(I'm not very sophisticated in love.) I also think my ESTJ comes in to play here, because proud people often have an easier time making decisions. Even if it turns out to be the wrong decision, at least they made a decision and stuck to it. This is why, even though I hated most of his policies, I never really hated GWB. He made a decision and stuck to it and I always find that commendable.

pride smothers and stomps all over those with even a slightly divergent path. pride narrows perception into a black/white framework. i don't find that commendable. but i too have had a lasting fascination with loyal leos. i have a lot of birthdays to remember in late summer. i guess ive always thought of pride as an easy deflection of insecurity. just another way to hide fear; there is a difference between pride and courage. what gwb did to this country was cowardice avarice and stupidity all rolled into one. i spent 8 years avoiding mass media outlets especially in politics cause more than five seconds of the stupid words falling out of his mouth made me want to spit. dusty_pictures hey_harlan

I do remember that day vividly. He was/is an idiot and I am sickened by all the war that ensued and that still ensues. But, being a "leader" means having to make decisions not everyone will like. So, some choose to not be a leader, and some choose to accept not everyone will like you. I haven't smoked a clove in ages (pregnancy = 9 months to learn how not to smoke). I do still enjoy a good cow chunk every now and again, however.
