In many ways it has changed as new people have arrived, and old skool blatherskites have left. With the war, it's spent some time being more political. But overall... it's pretty much the same. It's both comforting and disappointing.

oh_god i am so sick of this speculation. it is STILL an experiment... let us not go through this blather_is_blather bullshit once more. you can't step one bloo foot in any direction without running into a fucking what_is_blather what_is_blather_supposed_to_be blather_is_blather what_happened_to_my_blather what_blather_is_supposed_to_be what_blather_means_to_me blather's_end blather_cannot_be_ruined blather_is blather_is_being_slaughtered blather_is_dying plather_pollution the_intellectual_decay_of_blather what_happened_to_blather what_could_happen_to_blather whatsthepointinblather i mean some of these are a stretch but do you see how easy it is to get sick of it?? i know i'm not the most old skool blatherskite here but i mean seven years & i've seen y'all come back to the same questions over & over again.

I think to ask this question is typically human. We want to make sense of things through pondering what has been, what is, what will be. Futile, sometimes. Useful, sometimes. Repetitive, sure. Blather is kind of interesting in that much like life, you can choose only to pay attention to the present, or you can dig through the past. I tend to poke at the recent posts and then explore my own past.

introspection by proxy? Blather is, after all, nothing but us. Blather_is_words, but it is OUR words, OUR thoughts, OUR twisty mazes of links. Surely, to wonder what blather has become is to stare into the mirror.

when one runs into a logic loop (such as the whatisblather blatherisblather repeat), it often is a sign that you're asking the wrong question. in this case, i think it's a bit of storm in a bottle syndrome; any description will fall short, any map is not the territory, and blather, being indeed both twisty and tangly, laughs at any attempts of definition, and will certainly find any description applied to be both true and false. a possibly answerable version of this question would be asking what changes people have seen over time, which again will of course fall short (map/territory), but is still, imho, a pretty worthless question *unless* you ask it as a personal one. for me, it's a little patch of flowers in a forgotten wood, and a shelf full of journals and scribbled poetry, and a place with people both known and unknown but all affectioned and shared with, and a hundred other things besides. seems like it would be a better five_words question than anything, if it must be posed.

Now let's try to keep our similes orthodox. "tempest in a teapot" is correct; "storm in a bottle" is yet another example of the despicable degeneration that has brought the blather faithful to tears.

As is well known, tempests have been occurring in teapots since the dawn of crumpets. The tragic loss of life at tea as these terrible tempests toss and turn over and over, is made a mockery by alluding to these genteel cataclysms as paltry "storms in bottles". I wince in my knickers, I can't say more.

what you're saying is that "tempest in a teapot" is correct, and "storm in a bottle" is incorrect. that's the kind of nitpicking asshattery that makes me want to shake your knickers for you, vehemently. if you're going to ignore anything else said and instead call bullshit on an old adage being expressed in newer terminology, well, i'm going to call bullshit right back. words are neither correct nor incorrect. they can be ugly, they can be inexpressive, they can even be *gramatically* incorrect, but applying such a black and white term is taking a very narrow view of words and their usage, which i was under the impression was to be done with a bit of art around here. why don't you just spell out the rules of correctness for me and i'll be sure to play by them, ok o.k. okay?

having just read this page now, i can say that i found what i perceived as an avoidance of a cliche phrase, both understandable and refreshing. if it was not apt at conveying it's metaphorical intent, i might find the editorial comment more relevant. as it is, i find the comment to be, ostensibly, concerned with common or traditional usage, and critical of what really comes down to a matter of style. personally, i avoid common usage and sayings, preferring to say things in my own voice.

Get your head out of your ass and read your history books. "Tempest in a teapot" was a newspaper headline from the Warren G. Harding administration about the Teapot Dome scandal. "Storm in a bottle" was coined approximately a century earlier about Benjamin Franklin's experimentation with lightning and his use of a glass bottle as an insulator. If you're going to be judgemental and snobbish, please try to be accurate.

Okay, I see the degeneration, now, but where did the despicable come in? I just had so much fun reading that, no offense to anyone. lol Anywho, blather has become my mental dumping ground with nary a bit of emotional restraint. I relieve stress, wax political, and discuss philosophy. I chat with friends, and "enemies", and generally post whatever I feel like posting. Very much a second skin. As for what that means blather is to anyone, I don't care. Thats what I use it for. I'm not here to "contribute" or "make the world a better place." I'm here to blather, and thats that.

blather is the future time for losers that have no social life, the kinds of people that don't like chatting to sweet old people, the kinds of people that only like drum and bass, the kinds of people that look at the floor when the talk to you, the kinds of people that are so fucked up they can't even help clear a table in a family home, well fuck off then if you don't want to be a part of my family, you're a freak with no social skills, how you teach children i just do NOT KNOW, how fucked they are going to turn out thats what i want to know.
