everybody looks down on everybody else when someone else fucks up, but its ok when they do stupid shit. hypocritical. everyone stares at everyone here. i once left the pizza hut in my own small town because everyone was staring at us as we walked in. I wasn't with my standard friends, either, who always get stares where ever they go because of their hair color and flesh mutilating appendages. but i was with people who have done nothing to altar their appearances and everyone was staring at us Algona is not a big down. its not a place where you feel scared. but i felt so uncomfortable that i had to leave. a little bit of that asocial feeling again

It's not just Heartland America, Many small towns in the south, and also in new england and come to think of it west by god virginia, have the ability to spot the stranger in their midst, and keep an eye on him. But in your own town? Shit! Maybe the people you were with were Aliens. Or maybe all the people in Algona have been replaced with Alien Replicants. I'd watch my back if I were you! Trust No One! and KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES!!!!!

rows of corn field in my back yard...sky-touching, golden buildings out my window at school...the best of two worlds..but the ignorance and close mindedness at home town is intolerable...city life is much more tolerable...if the small town folk could just get past the corn fields...

I dont think iowa is so bad. I mean sure there are lots of small towns, but we do have Des Moines. It IS getting bigger, unlike all the other places, and IT IS getting a new Staduim, and i think it is pretty cool cuz i go there alot, Court avenue is the best cuz it has great jazz clubs and coffee houses. any way, Aimee i hope ya enjoy Drake i have a friend who goes there and she likes it alot. Although it is sorta in the Ghetto. are u from a big city?

Algona...the name strikes two chords within me. It is a place of memory, and a place of eternal torment. A place to grow, and a place to run from. I look back there and see a lot of what I love and loathe...I know I can leave, but I also know that no matter where I go, I'll look back to that place for shaping who I am.

please don't associate my crappy state with that crappy band. it's like, the feeling you get when you're in iowa, does not necessarily have to be the feeling you get when you listen to slipknot. or try to ignore them. Just cuz they are from here is no reason to ever ever talk about them. ever.

I was actually having a conversation with Corey (leadsinger of Slipknot), and I found that, while I do NOT like Slipknot in the slightest, I have found that his interpretations of growing up in Iowa are very succinct with what it is ACTUALLY like growing up in this state.

Algona is the place I used to live. I now live 25 miles from there...on a farm. The nearest town is more like a village. It has no stop lights. I am surrounded by corn, soy beans, and pigs. I look forward to moving to Minneapolis. Sure, it's still cold in the winter, but there'll be things to do. The downside of the cities-there aren't as many trees and parks. I'll miss Call Park, but I can always come back. Iowa, no matter what, will always be "home." It's where I've grown up. A friend of mine has these lyrics of one of his songs. They say something about midwestern towns...the kind you always want to leave...but you always come back to. That's obviously not word for word, but close enough to get the idea. He's right though. I can't wait for the summer.

We used to have this half acre corn patch in pennsburg..sweet corn..I loved the way the corn tassles gleamed in the sun..I loved watching the stalks shoot straight up...scrape the bottom of clouds..I hated when there was a drought or if a farmer was is trouble..'cause you'd see his feild, the stalks all shriveled, dried..turning brittle... ...
