u24 c'mon VB people, we need a systray app! 050706
...
u24 PHP lib_blather up @ http://www.puremango.co.uk/lib_blather_src.txt

supports
-reading blathes
-adding blathes
-recent

-check if word exists

on red and blue

let me know what you do with this + ideas/improvements :-)

u24 indeed :-)

coming soon: blight

In fact, if all goes well, this post will have been made using blight

u24 yup. blight works :-)

need to make it look a little nicer, then you too can browse blather from work in a nice inconspicuous format

anne-girl (continually spamming this page, i seem to be)
quickly translated (most of) u24's lib_blather into perl... isn't quite as robust, but it seems to work, in a pinch

u24 re: 'way cooler' - no way! you use regex therefore much respect is due :-) 050711
...
anne-girl laugh... using regexes is way easy, at least in perl
no geek cred there
050711
...
u24 ah, using regexes is easy in PHP, but understanding how to create a decent regex requires superhuman abilities.

have u seen the regex coach? nice little app; shows you what it matches as you type the regex

u24 vaguely redesigned, nothing too special 051017
...
u24 that is to say, I've redone blathertools.iscreamsundays.com to fit more with blather.

yeah, you're right, I should do a red version.

in fact, I should make the whole thing XML driven so we can add new tools without having to dive into the html. but I still haven't got php working properly on that server. :-(
051017
...
birdmad it could be argued, in the most negative of contexts, that i am one of these.

i'd not deny it, though.

heh-heh.

u24 extended anne-girl's alldays.txt so it now includes all showday pages up to today.

I intend to make my script auto-update at some point.

Until then, if anyone needs either a specific daterange or the list extending, email me because it doesn't take long.

:-)

u24 if anyone has any ideas for blather interface enhancements, let me know and I'll have a go at writing a firefox greasemonkey script for it.

eg, I find it useful to open all 'recent' links in new windows, so I'm now writing a script that'll do that automatically.

big things like spellchecking are possible, but hard.

i might do something in the autosuggest area (eg while you type, it suggests blathes, or while you type, it highlights which words are/are not blathes.)

i'm going to do a script that'll add a form to the top of each page that'll let me type a blathe (with autosuggest?) and go straight to it.

so yeah, any other ideas gratefully recieved - if you've ever thought "it'd be neat if blather had ___" now's your chance :-)
051121
...
z a filter that could list one 'skite on a giver date might be nice. 051121
...
z giver should be given 051121
...
u24 cool idea, but impossible; just looping through all the links on the who page crashed firefox, let alone downloading them and parsing for names and dates.

damn i wish i had direct access to the database (even readonly would be great.. hint hint to anyone from newdream who might be listening)

:-)
051121
...
u24 re: date filter, I'll add this in to blight when i next work on it.
(blight is offline at the mo' as google got hold of it and ate my bandwidth as a snack)
051121

z list all words blathed by a given 'skite and their frequency. 051205
...
u24 ever? 051207
...
z yes 051207
...
z it might help with your skitebot concept. if you had a statistical index of vocabulary usage for a given 'skite it might go a long way towards emulation of their style of blathing. 051207
...
meta meta 051213
...
u24 yes it would. but greasemonkey wouldn't be the way to do. but a good_idea.
i was thinking of adding a recent link on all pages. I was thinking of doing an autocomplete for blathe titles. (did i already say that?)
i was thinking of adding the do you have words box to the bottom/side of each blathe.
i was thinking of adding the 'from' list to the right hand side.

I think I'll do all of those things.
051214
...
anne-girl you should add a "tag this blathe with [textbox]" form-thingy
blatherlicious
051214
...
u24 yeah, that's not a bad idea. 060427

somebody who do i have to sleep with around here to get an update of Anne-Girl's fascinating "blather_stats" chart? they are over a year old and...and...and i really like you. 060714

u24 bounce!

anne-girl would be the most likely sleep-with candidate, she was last active 2 weeks ago, so keep bugging her.

u24 i also would find this interesting. 061023

The cheer-up kid Who do I have to sleep with to get to sleep with Anne-girl? 061024

hsg wow! thanks! 061024
...
anne-girl anne-girl would indeed be the appropriate person to sleep with to get an update of blather_stats

she will be out of exam hell in three weeks and ready to dig up and run her hacky perl code on some blather shiznit

given some appropriate incentive, of course
070403
...
anne-girl also, my hosting is dead, so I'll have to move some stuff over to p2's site, if I can still do that 070403
...
anne-girl hmm,

the blathertools on p2's site seem to be not working

checks if e still has shell access?
070425
...
u24 i imagine it's just a case of chmodding them to be executable... 070426
...
anne-girl That's the odd thing -- they seem to all be chmodded 755

and it used to work, so I can't imagine what could have changed in the interim (maybe I need to mess with the .htaccess?)
070426
...
anne-girl alldays.txt has been updated, though not uploaded anywhere, yet 070426
...
u24 that is weird.
side note: I tried to check permissions on puremango using ws_ftp once (win32) and it pops up a nice GUI with tickboxes, but it doesn't populate the tickboxes with the actual permissions, so you can end up doing this:
view permissions, change nothing, click ok, ws_ftp updates permissions per its default setup - argh!

I don't really know about debugging perl but perhaps htaccess could be the problem - or the perl executable itself?
070426
...

anne-girl u24: I actually realised that I don't think I can actually edit the blathertools directory

I mean, I can access /a/ blathertools directory and move stuff around in it, but it doesn't have any discernable effect on the behavior of blathertools.iscreamsundays.com itself (like I move/create files and they don't seem to show up)

Unless I'm missing something.

so I'm really confused now. I guess I should ask p2.

u24 you won't be able to blathe using blight - it was written before the captcha.

I can try to produce a workaround if that's a problem :)

only glitch was:
couldn't get images to display
including the captcha
couldn't post
tried fiddling with the options
but couldn't get it.

I am able to blathe through the Gateway..not sure what that's all about.
