Blather is not the real world. Blather tries to be like life, but fails miserably, in that in the end, it is only words. Blather_ruins_lives Blather_changes_us I_hate_blather or the worst I_don't_need_blather

i just feel a lot of hatred coming from blather right now. it could be my twisted view perhaps, but whatever. I go through periods of hating existentialism and pontification. This is one of them. I wonder what would happen if blather was really a giant room of all the people that ever blathered. How would we talk to each other? I guess that is the point of blather. Condensing the real world into tidy poetic packages.

sounds like someone is hurt because then need some sort of affirmation, and they aren't getting it so they go to blather, to find affirmation from strangers on the merit of their words and they aren't getting it sucks to lack affirmation

Annie's quote was taken out of context. She wasn't directing that to blather people. She was directing that to all people (or maybe one person, i don't know). But she wasn't backtalking anyone on that site.

bullshit pralines&cream! that quote was the "whole" of her blather therefor it wasnot taken out of context! and are blather people not apart of the so called "all people"? and if she wasnot back talking people on the site "depression" why did she post it under "depression" instead of a more suitable blathe like all_people or people_on_earth or all_people_of_society if those comments were not directed at the people at the depression page than why was it posted there?

what i don't understand...is what's going on... why are y'all so angry? i get a mucho bad vibe from this one..and you know...it's kinda weird why's that guy freaking out at the beginning...if you ever really thought to yourself, on purpose or not, that blather was anything like the real world...then maybe you should leave blather because at the very beginning it says that blather is only words...and maybe you need a break or something... chill...breath...it'll be all good (and i quote): "blather is words. bunches of words, strewn about in a twisty tangly web of pontification, insight and nonsensical delight." not where it says, "blather is words" no one here thinks of it as the real world ... and if your mind has brought you that far...maybe you should take a breather from blather but what do i know...i'm just me

ELITISM 1: leadership or rule by an elite 2: the selectivity of the elite; especially : SNOBBERY 1 (elitism in choosing new members) 3: consciousness of being or belonging to an elite (Websters) I'm sure you guys must be tired of my posting definitions and i promise fewer in future, but i feel this is a case where the choice of the word 'elitism' is way wrong. Definition 1: Blather is not 'ruled' by anybody. More likely, this is somebody's doctorate experiment to see what type of structure emerges, if any. Definition 2: There is no 'selection' process. New members usually stumble through the door which is open to all. Definition 3: I, for one, am conscious of belonging to a very mixed society in Blatherdom. We have our geniuses and our trailer trash (names withheld with great effort). In fact, this forum is as close as you'll come to finding a 'free' society on the planet - provided you are fortunate enough to have the price of admission... ³

There's a phrase people used blather often, it was kind of a mantra when it became clear that personal interactions were starting to form: "We are not a community" I like the oxymoron. It points up the anxiety most people get from this site, particularly after a few months. People are always redefining blather (its a chatroom, its a poetry forum, its a non-linear novel etc etc) but the one no-one seems happy to admit is that blather_is_a_show. There is an element of performance to it. It takes a while to learn to do it without expecting applause.

Well said DannyH! Whatever people may say, this is a community. There are indeed the popular ones (whom of course, most people like) and then there are the quiet ones, whose blathes tend to go unnoticed. I'm not complaining about not being popular, because I rather enjoy not having people pay attention to me. But if you notice, the moment one of these quiet people try to make a wave, someone else immediately tries to shut them up. I guess it just proves the... umm is it the first ammendment? (or which ever one declares free speech) but it proves that it was a good idea.. but only if your demonstrating the point and not purposely trying to hurt someone... then it's just mean. oh well.. but none the less, i agree with danny

I wasn't looking for affirmation of my blathering skills. Maybe I used elitism in the wrong context. I just had two unpleasant blather experiences in two days and I guess I lumped them together with all my other blather experiences under one heading. My Depression blathe was taken completely out of context. I have two very depressed friends at the moment, and I tolerate and support them to high heaven, you have to know. But sometimes, I need to let out that split second of anger and frustration that I feel for their condition. That blather was the result. I didn't mean to distress anyone. I didn't want attention. I just wanted to blather. I don't like to upset anyone, or belittle their problems. I became angry at blather, and what it means or doesn't mean. Blather has changed my best friend's life in the literal sense. I believe that it's completely altered her direction in life. I just wanted to let something out. That's what blather's all about. I apologize.

Annie, You needn't apologize.. that wasn't a blathe at us. It was a blathe at the world or specifically those friends, and it's okay... we all have those days.

i don't know why but i was reminded of sophie's world... that point where sophie and the philosopher (alberto?) realize they are characters in someone's mind. i'd never thought of blather in that way. it makes you think -- why are you really writing the things you write? because you want to or because something (inside or outside) tells you to? (don't take me too seriously. i'm just having fun, i think...)

I agree sphinx, very sophies worldish. I think it's really all summed up in the adding section, "do you have words?" It's a communal brain; heaps of ancient, long lost and forgotten, disjointed and haphazard thoughts, from heaps and heaps of different people.
