Quintessensual an attempt;
so easy, when there's nothing at risk,
nothing to espouse, nothing to say;
so hard, when part of you's out there,
something essential, worth most of a day.

reitoei i'd enjoy writing essays if that was all there was to it.
but you can't. you have to write a 10 page creative essay on this topic, you must include these points, use this word x times, if you use this word i will personally execute you. i have a very nice example here (and if you deviate from it i will nail your ass) i want every essay to be unique or i'll think you're cheating. due next class. now for your homework.

sure piece of cake.

no reason discuss how one photographer and one filmmaker challenged the conventional understanding of their medium...

this sounds so ridiculously simple, because it's so broad a topic, but so ridiculously hard at the same time, because it's so broad a topic. is there really a conventional understanding of these arts? but of course there has been at some point...i confuse myself...i think i've lost my ability to think.
or i just really don't want to.

niska essays were probably my favorite thing about high school, next to the pot. nothing was better than that english final in grade 12 with the three essays to write in two hours. to some of you, it sounds brutal - but here is an opportunity to just write whatever you want and by making some very vague reference to the main topic, you can pull an A out of your ass in no time.

to get a good start utilizing the time limit you've been given effectively, you just write what you want to write about - any opinion/topic at all - this is to get you writing, since it's hard to make well-researched points about topics you don't care about, such as a book you didn't read or an assignment you didn't do and it's coming back in the form of an essay question worth 40 percent of your grade, on your final to haunt you.

In this case, think of any and every obsucre refernce society has made to this topic. the Simpsons was always a constant source of inspiration for me, you may like seinfeld - either way, there are references to the basic societal workings in everything - even movies, god ESPECIALLY American Pie - and any time you relate a topic to what is happeneing in todays society, it shows applied knowledge. this is definately worth points on the exam.

whatever you like wrting about can then be metaphorically related to the main theme. For example: i once wrote about the simposons episode where they got the trampoline. The trampoline kept coming BACK. it's because it'a a trampoline - get it? bounce? the topic was something to do with Macbeth. any metaphor could be applied to nearly ANYTHING - expand on it. todays society relates to yesterdays literature in every way. now, you can't just re-cap a TV episode, you also have to make some nonsensical judgements on the main topic BASED on the bullshit, but no one will grade you for your opinion, no matter how spurious. Just pad out that essay. your point could be made in the introduction - fill in the space if you need to with rambling thoughts and then use it as a point for your main argument. this especially works if the idea of rambling can be related to the task at hand; losing control, searching, realizations... these are all common themes that can bring about an ansewr to any essay question, regardless of the original material.

then, link it all together in your introduction and conclusive paragraphs. in fact, these are the two paragraphs that should always be written last. if you aren't sure what you want to say yet, set out to say nothing and base your argument on whatever you end up with. it will be a lot easier to prove your point if you don't really define it until you've come to some conclusion.

also, note that being high might also give you a bit of an 'edge', but this approach is not really for everyone, so i only recommend it if this is something you're quite familliar with.

the last time i wrote an essay was in college - i don't remember the exact topic, but i DID write it on the bus on the way to class. i know i shared my opinion on the inner workings of the bar (which is where i was the night before - consequently i forgot to write the esay earlier) and i know it had something to do with human nature, so this was a no-brainer. essays are just organized thoughts. organized stories, organized ideas. and reserch to support your ideas only has to come from what you already know. in fact, i guess this whole blathe was an essay in a way.
see? so easy. essay - easy, hey... i think we're on to something here.

melisandre English essays are easy, unless you have my teacher, because you have to be psychic to fully understand everything and get an A on it. Why can't he just like the b.s. he gets, like other teachers? My b.s. is good, I know that. He's the one who sucks. 040319
