sleepless In golden days of poetry
Life was called an art,
Now life is more a science
Of which I'm not a part.
Biology or Chemistry
Were always Greek to me,
No wonder I don't understand
Life's deepest mystery.

kx21 Science is an ART to study, explore, confirm and connect
the Vigin of something and
the Unknown of something else.

For instance,

If the Virgin of something is GOD's existence, then the next logical step is to identify the Unknown of something else...with The_Power_of_Creativity and
The_Gene_of_Nothing....

Eureka!!!

It is none other than ALIEN's Existence

lizardqueen Theres a science to the clock with every move and overlapping of the crooked golden Roman numerals. Out of everything in the room to live in, I always chose the clock. Maybe because it moved, or maybe because it made time seem to go by faster. That year i probably spent more time gazing into that clock than anything else. It was possibly what saved me.
Sometimes I would live in its hands, gliding across the fat golden Roman numerals, sometimes the numerals themselves, hiding behind the V's and I's, enjoying the arial view.
We'd play games. I would count as fast as i could in my head beginning with the second hand on the twelve, id stop when the second hand had made a full rotation back to the 12 again, then compare my number to the clocks 60 seconds. Once i nearly quadrupled the speed of the second hand. This made the time go by faster until he left. We called it racing. Racing the clock.

justmeagain Science has its roots in the foundation of mankind. Ever since man first harnessed the power of fire, man has sought the means to harness the forces of nature to effect his own preservation in a hostile environment. It becomes apparently obvious that the keys to securing an existence in nature lies in dominating and duplicating the natural process on a much smaller scale. Fire is just one example of this. When man made that first logical thought, it became a religion, a creed and a code which to follow. Fire was derived from God, The Creator of The Universe. It followed that the ability to contain this force was a gift revered and cherished. The understood paradox was that man now had to take responsibility for the uses of his fire so that the balance of nature would be kept and that gift would not be taken away. I suggest that this first principle of obligation has been lost and is the current reason for the demise of the scientific method and use.

The purpose of harnessing the elements is to improve the quality of life i.e., cook food, light, warmthall basic needs and requirements for life. To meet those requirements head-on and to flourish. Early people were able to accomplish that and the idea of creating organized structures for acquiring knowledge had been born of the essential need to know. Without divine inspiration on some level, I doubt any semblance of the current modes of thought could have come to pass.

slip Explain to me the science behind art - Behind that girl who sings an amazing song, paints an amazing picture, dances an amazing dance. Solve the equation to unlock the mysteries she can only express through art. Taking a technical viewpoint on a subject so abstract, is like finding order in chaos - although I'm sure it's there.
Maths is the language of the gods, art is a sneak preview of what science has not yet seen.

popokelvis math is the most ellegant science:

Log (-1) = i*pi

but thats just because mathematicians can create whatever shit they want as long as it makes sense in your mind. So they are just a bunch of arrogant guys trying to be the most ellegant of them all, the interesting thing is that some of that some times can have some non-artistic application

pete any scientific invention sufficently advanced is magic to those who don't understand it. all magic is science which has yet to be understood. religion is applying magic to the understanding of the world, and science is applying understanding to magic, and thus the world. science is but a religion of today... 040308

quotree "In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles. Therefore, in the Old Silurian Period the Mississippi River was upward of one million three hundred thousand miles long, seven hundred and forty-two years from now the Mississippi will be only a mile and three-quarters long. There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesome returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact." -Mark Twain 040412

shower singer Another stupid thing about science - one of it's fundamentals is that nothing can be proved, they can only be disproved.

Is not disproof just a type of proof? Is disproof not simply proving something wrong?

You cannot have one without the other. You cannot reject proof without also rejecting disproof. You cannot accept disproof without also accepting proof.
050928
...
zeke i think that you are making a categorical error. where the rejection of proof is based on infinte regress and the need for a priori assumptions, the rejection of disproof does not follow. it is true, you cannot prove a negative, you can disprove a theorum on technical criterion. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_Fallacy as an example of this. 050928
