The root cause of much of this aggression is restlessness. Restlessness is an interesting trait when seen in the light of our need to adapt, experience and witness, so as to continue evolving and being of service to the universe of which we are a part. So how is testosterone of service? The root of the word "testosterone" is the word "test". In the ancient world, a test was an earthen pot or vessel in which metals were refined or examined for purity. The word has evolved to mean many things, most if not all of which seem to have a common theme: a thing's worthiness to protect that which is valuable. We can find various definitions of "test" to demonstrate this. Here are some(along with the item they protect): 1. A challenge, trial. (The title, trophy or reward!) 2. A cupel or cupelling hearth in which precious metals are melted for trial and refinement. (The purity of the investment/product.) 3. An examination, given often during the academic term.(The integrity of the knowledge.) 4. A session in which a product, piece of equipment, or system is examined under everyday or extreme conditions to evaluate its durability, etc.(The product/users lives/company reputation) 5. [cricket] A match meant to decide the better of two countries.(National pride!) 6. The external calciferous shell, or endoskeleton, of an echinoderm, e.g. sand dollars and sea urchins.(The soft shelled life within.) 7. Testa; seed coat. (The plant life within.) 8. [obsolete] Judgment; distinction; discrimination. (One's reputation in society.) As a further example, we give "TESTament"(hopefully) to protect the truth and so on and so forth. In the case of the family unit and the course of human evolution, it is the emotional heart that's the item to be protected. We are moving our way into this next level of development, away from the material nature of our brains and into the other, higher nature within us. In this way, we'll hopefully reconnect and begin functioning properly, as billions of independent extensions of our Creator process. To this end TESTosterone, besides aggression, often brings with it the drive to find, then protect such evolved hearts from material danger and the worry of it. Here we find the roots of the knight and the maiden; of the traveler who would vanquish many foes and complete many challenges, just to have the hand of the king's(God's) daughter. Here we find the inner origins of teen angst. As a side note: Here we also begin to touch on issues of gender and gender roles; issues which are very divisive these days. Again, it's not within the scope of this work to dive into that debate, but rather to explore a possible explanation for the state of the human condition, and perhaps..provide some direction or clarity where it may be helpful. That stated, it seems as though altering our bodies or minds is doubting the very process which formed them. This same process has done a very good job up until the time humans began meddling with its course..so doubt about our physical form hardly seems in order. Perhaps, in a universe that is a bit of everything, there will be women who feel more inclined to be keepers_of_the_hearth and out there waiting for them, are men who are more inclined to be keepers_of_the_heart. It might just be that they are looking for each other. Maybe. And speaking of the heart and the hearth, here we can see the mechanics of our new evolution. The purpose of gender roles becomes more clear: There is a (primarily) testosterone-driven keeper_of_the_hearth in place to keep the material basics in order. Materials for: food, clothing, shelter & protection from physical harm. These individuals generally (but not always) grew bigger and/or more capable of doing physical work and handling material struggle. This to protect the_keeper_of_the_heart; a (mostly) estrogen-powered guard of our higher emotional nature. Their function is to provide focus toward that higher nature by providing an emotionally inspiring & comforting environment, as well as guidance and a gentle example. When we begin to lose our way, becoming too focused on materialism, wounded internally by our contact with the outside world and those portions of it less evolved, the heart can recharge, heal and re-orient itself back toward the more evolved self that lies within each of us. That is, if the hearth has been kept in some form. Finally, when children reach age (11 - 14), the next generation of keepers_of_the_hearth go off with those who kept the hearth before them. They will be taught how to move forward in the material world in order to better protect the hearth. Meanwhile, the future keepers_of_the_heart will be taught how to serve the temple_in_the_tempest as its spiritual/emotional guard by those gentle shepherds who raised them. And so between them, (when all is functioning properly) there is a harbor created.. a spiritual temple, in the tempest of a material world. With this arrangement comes evolutionary progress as each new generation has a more emotionally healthy, spiritually-guided childhood and the foundation psychology that comes with it. A material mind that is sheltered from materialism will produce less material thoughts and slowly, over generations, humanity will emerge from the mud of its origins. (No doubt it is happening among other species too.) Surely there is a great wisdom guiding the course of all reality. Truly this the path to better people. Upon examination, we will find that much of the reason behind our taboos, religious doctrines, social norms and superstitions are because we are subconsciously aware of this heart_and_hearth arrangement and seek to protect it, regardless of how much the fads, fancies and schemes concocted by our materially oriented minds often distort and destroy it. Which brings us to this day when the priestesses have been led to abandon the temple and the warriors are rapists and plunderers. It's happened many times before throughout history. First the monkey_kings squeeze the rest of the populous until they have material insecurity. Then the_keepers_of_the_heart_and_hearth are sold a materialist bill of goods. (Hey Madonna, shame on you!) And soon, they start treating the home like a geisha whorehouse/piggy bank after the spiritual fires are replaced with material desires. Then the whole harbor goes to hell. Who knew it would all be so easy to dismantle? Who knew the FOX was so clever? Who knew but the Bundys and the Simpsons? Next we'll dive into the aberrant behavior that holds us back and slows us down.
