Grievance my personel opinion: it was intelligent, but definetly not genius. a typical fodder story with extra dramatics, and they bastarsized the song teen_spirit, that was a blasphemy of the songs original intent, and a disgrace to giving it a new one. sorry, i like nirvana. ok. i never really did like those type of movies much though. Moulin Rouge is a beautiful, heart-breaking movie, but even more haert-breaking is the beauty of its songs. When I buy the soundtrack, I'l listen to it all day and cry from being overwhelmed with beauty. 020201 ... freakizh baz lurhmann rules. the movie is awesome. ewan mcgregor is so hot and sings amazing. nicole kidman is beautiful. john leguizamo was funny and small. the music is great and the whole post-classic mix of songs was unique. 11 out of 10. 020201 ... girl_jane I finally saw it tonight. I love it. I'm most definitely buying it and the soundtrack. The plot was typical, yes, but I'm a sucker for love stories. And the set and costumes and camera work and everything else made up for the predictable plot. Oh, I'm in love. I think I may have to watch Romeo and Juliet tonight too. Perhaps I'll go searching for more movies of this director... 020216 ... bastion The two of them (Nic Kid and Ewa Mcg) actually sing in the movie. 020216 ... freakizh baz_lurhmann has only two movies: romeo and juliet, and moulin rouge. i heard of a low budget one, but i don't know if it's still available actually, baz is a famous director/producer of theater in australia. it seems to be his strong point. then he tried movies and got an excellent outcome, and, if you notice to every detail, you may see how scenes like mercutio's 'young hearts, run free' are theater-like arranged. so, moulin rouge, the theater inside the theater, is bigtime ironic in a certain way. is that theater style what makes baz's style unique? 020216 ... pralines&cream strictly ballroom is the other one 020217 ... nomatter I love this movie. It was mind-numbingly good, but the chap sitting next to me passed out cold. Coincidentally, I saw this chap a week or so ago. He was out walking the streets with his new wife. She wore blush and red lipstick, an autumn dress and looked lovely. As for him, he had shed about thirty pounds. Their eyes shone bright and their mouths were curled with love and delight. I said hello. They waved back. And thus we went our separate ways... As for the message of Moulin Rouge, a lot goes on beneath and beyond the big red tent, but it is all one in the end.
