Chris Carter San Francisco is my favorite city. I lived in the Bay area for 2 1/2 years, and it was unforgettable. Best place to live, in my opinion: near Lake Merritt in Oakland. It is near Berkely, near the subway (BART), reasonable rents, and much quieter than the city. Save the visits to the City for the weekends, or your job. what I loved: the architecture, the natural beauty, the weather (not too hot or too cold); the variety of the city; the traces of bohemian culture; and a certain morphic resonance that I have never experienced anywhere else. A highly populated city has to have some harsh, frightening qualities to give it excitement.
