Syrope amelie is the best movie! I had to go see it twice. I want to download it, but I cant find it in English ...not even with subtitles. If anyone knows where i can buy it...lemme know!! 020201

little wonder I agree, it's a wonderful film. I saw it in Chicago with Emily a couple of weeks ago. All I could do when I got out of the theater was make a little pouty face and say "awww". 020201

blown cherry she reminds me a little of me. A bit odd and a bit shy, but well meaning.
She gets her guy in the end. Lucky thing.

ellen cherry charles The reason why I got my hair cut the way I did... (silly me).
If you're a dreamer, you have to see Amelie.
What was up with it getting shafted at the Academy awards?!?? I was bouncing up and down in my chair with anticipation--my Gram thought I was going insane!

KindreDSpirit Umm...the Amelie haircut thing? Yeah. Silly me, too.

When the lights came on in the theater I was still sitting transfixed, staring at the screen...and then it just burst out of me: "I want to BE Amelie!"

I guess my haircut is one small and yes, silly step towards a life of magic and mystery and love.

pobodys nerfect Oh, this is such a good movie! Very much worth the money to see it. I only have one complaint about my copy--by the time taxes were addedI had to pay nearly 40 dollars thanks to the "bonus" dvd that came with it(damn GST!).

I felt that extra disk didn't really add anything to the movie, so if you're buying it, you should try and find a copy without the bonus disk.

elocin get over it. art imitates life. perhaps you should look within yourself rather than trying to force others to find the answer for you. 030503
...
angry & stupid i'd hazard a guess that approximately 2% of art imitates life. a very great deal of what most people call "art" is sensationalized, sugar-coated drivel. if art truly imitated life, almost no one would want to have anything to do with it. 030503
...
elocin i don't know what you consider to be art but of what i speak i know to be true. "hold true to your faith and your heart and you shall forever rise." 030504

birdmad although my own doesn't always do so, i agree with Wilde 's observation "The Decay of Lying"

basically we should let Life try to imitate Art, instead of constantly shackling Art to the constraints of Life.

It's why i like Jeunet's films, Its why i like David Lynch's films. If you've seen Delicatessen or City of Lost Children, you know that Jeunet is not terribly encumbered by the "real" and like Lynch's fantastic disasters, i would venture that anything he does badly would still be more compelling in it's own right than what a lot of good "realistic" directors do well (The Merchant-Ivory turn-of-the-previous-century English period pieces come to mind. Lots of characters milling about in pretty, idyllic settings prattling and simpering through endlessly dreary and unremarkable plots that upon viewing, the viewer immediately forgets so as to prevent the boredom from inducing madness or becoming fatal in it's own right.)

Getting back to the subject, i quite enjoyed Amelîe, it has a certain goofy charm i can't help but find endearing

rowbes This is an example of cgi used for good and not evil. So many blackbusters nowadays are tainted with overuse of computer imagery (episode 2 for example) so it is refreshing to see computers used to enhance the art of a film. Most of the cgi is unnoticeable unless you know its there. 030504
