highanddry While watching Whose Line is it Anyway? the other day, I realized that I was laughing at a joke about the victims of the Titanic, and I got to thinking. Why is it that we can laugh at disasters like the Titanic and the Hindenburg? People died, and it was tragic. You don't see those kinds of jokes about the Holocaust or the World Trade Center bombing.

Why?

I think it has to do with the fact that these events were human accidents, not crimes out of hatred or intolerance, not plotted. I think it's interesting how much our concept of intention factors into tragedy.
