Shrouding all the ground around me Is this holy crow above me. Black as holes within a memory And blue as our new second sun. I stick my hand into his shadow To pull the pieces from the sand. Which I attempt to reassemble To see just who I might have been. I do not recognize the vessel, But the eyes seem so familiar... Like phosphorescent desert buttons Singing one familiar song...

Nobody but me seems to have gotten what the song's about, in this world. It makes reference the the book 'The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge' by Carlos Castaneda. Dreaming of that face again. It's bright and blue and shimmering. Grinning wide and comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes. (Something to do with the book, I can't remember) On my back and tumbling down that hole and back again rising up and wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye. (Symbolism, obviously, describing TRIPPING really bad, as Carlos does in the book. Figure out the rest) {indistinct} Many people think it says 'In Out In Out Innnnnnnnnn!', but I think he's saying 'Stay out', part of his bad trip. {6:52} -A child's rhyme stuck in my head. It said that life is but a dream. I've spent so many years in question, to find I've known this all along.- (Refering to the child's rhyme I always thought was certainly not writen by a child. You know, the one that says 'Fuckin' relax and take it easy, because nothing matters and this is just a dream'.) 'So good to see you. I've missed you so much. So glad it's over. I've missed you so much. Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away? Came out to watch you play. Why are you running?' -Shrouding all the ground around me. Is this holy crow above me. Black as holes within a memory and blue as our new second sun. (Don Juan can physicaly shape-shift into a Crow and teaches Carlos how to do it, aswell. The 'new second sun' is a symbolic refernce to the alternate reality Carlos experiences during his trip.) I stick my hand into it's shadow to pull the pieces from the sand. Which I attempt to reassemble to see just who I might have been. I do not recognize the vessel, but the eyes seem so familiar. Like phosphorescent desert buttons singing one familiar song... - (Referring to the point in the book where he asks Mescalito about his father, '..to see just who I might have been...', '...the eyes seem so familiar...'. 'Buttons', as in peyote buttons. Peyote is a cactus, and thus, grows in the desert. They glow in the desert moonlight) 'So good to see you. I've missed you so much. So glad it's over. I've missed you so much. Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away? Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away?' (It's a bad trip, as you can see, but it's worth it. 'So glad it's over. I've missed you so much.' could either be a reference to seeing Don Juan after the trip is over, or to chasing Mescalito) (Prying open my third eye. 4x) So good to see you once again. I thought that you were hiding. And you thought that I had run away. Chasing the tail of dogma. (Opened my eye 3x) And there we were (Opened my eye 3x) And there we were So good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me. And you thought that I had run away. Chasing a trail of smoke and reason. {whispering voices} (Prying open my third eye. 10x) (The trip eventualy unnaturaly prys open his third eye, wich is dangerous, but he was lucky he could take it (it can drive you insane or cause the blood vessels in your brain to explode (killing you))) Possibly my favorite of Tool's songs. If you take in note the names of a few other songs and lyrics, it becomes evident what exactly they're 'into'.

Sometimes it just knocks on my forehead, quite out of the blue. I never know why. But I feel it. Concretely and physically. And if I take a moment there and then, or even a little later, to breathe and sit and concentrate, the knocking gets louder and deeper, sometimes approaching painful. But calming.
