arrg, I was writing down what I listen to, and I acidentally erased it. I'll try again. So to answer your question, nocturnal, here I go: I grew up on the Long island scene, which has a ton of great bands. I lived for people like Silent Majority. I never got into ska because by nature I do not like little children, and those are the types that go to the shows. I always stayed more on the hardcore and punk side. Hardcore: The thing about hardcore is that the best hardcore bands are the ones that stray from the fundamentals of hardcore and do their own thing. I guess Kill Your Idols or Ensign would best catagorize hardcore. The atypical bands I enjoy are GlassJAw, thisyearsmodel, E Town Concrete, and Comin' Correct. Oh, and Shai Hulud is good too. My friends love God Forbid, but I find them too cheesy. Punk: I've always listened to the standards like Sex Pistols, Ramones, NY Dolls. I love green day and all the mainstream 90's punkers. I think my favorite of that category is Pennywise, but I still love Bad Religion even thought their last album wasn't that great. Of the scene bands, I was very into I Farm and Anti-Flag, nothing too poppy. Currently, I enjoy the Movielife and basically any band in the Lost in Space cliche. I enjoy emo, but i find that after three spins of a dashboard confessional cd I lose interest. Nevertheless, I have quite a few saves the day albums. Alternative is of course a staple of my diet. I constantly consume blind melon songs, and i love weezer, the rentals and that dog. RHCP are amazing. I live through grunge, so yes I a m a fan of all of those bands. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, do I need to go on? I listened to a lot of industrial music as a kid. NIN, KMFDM, skold, Pig, Gravity Kills that kind of stuff. I was an odd child. I don't really listen to that much any more. I am a closet Gin Blossoms fan. I also breathe pixies songs. Metal. It is unavoidable. If you grew up on LI you have to love it. I have every Metallica cd, but i haven't given them a spin in eons. Pantera, Deftones, Slayer, its all great. Guns n roses. If your thinking i'm into a band like Clutch or tool you're probably right. I like the funk based rock. Stuff like early Incubus; I've been listening to them ever since "Enjoy Incubus" came out in 97. I love Hoobustank and Gruvis Malt. My dad always listen to a lot of classic rock, so it's no big surprise I live on that stuff. I am very much about the Beatles, Skynyrd, Zep, Zappa, the Who, AC/DC, Hendrix, Springsteen, the Doors, and Jefferson Airplane. Its all beautiful. I once listen to nothing but Tom Petty for a month straight. Of the classic bands I've seen, I'd say AC/DC, Bruce, and the Who put on the best show. I always look for strange new things. I make passionate love to mindless self indulgence, at the drive-in, Lostprophets, Sunny Day Real Estate, and anything else enlightening. I listen too a lot of singer-songwriters. I've been listening to a lot of Simon and Grafunkel, Cat Stevens and Gordon Lightfoot lately. Of the lilith fair type stuff, the only person that has peak my interest is Tori Amos. I like some jazz. Armstrong, Davis, Ellington, and Wynton Marsalis. NO KENNY G!!!!!!! I hate country... ALL OF IT. I like rap that makes me either think or laugh, no Nelly or Master P. Being from NY, I prefer Wu Tang. Run DMC is of course my fav. West Coast is fine too; Snoop is great. I hate Puff Daddy; I think he should be run over with a Jeep and tossed of of a tall building and into shark tank. DMX will probably hurt me one day. I don not like Eminem, I just don't find him that interesting. Public Enemy is great. A lot of people who listen to rock say they don't like rap, but I find that it is sometimes something that just draws you in if it is really good. On the other hand, Jay-z does suck. I like prog stuff like Praxis or Rush. I will personally murder fred durst. I stopped watching mtv a long time ago. I detest pop. I won't even get into the boy band problem. Of classical, I would say that Bach is my favorite, although I am not too familiar with the intricities of classical music. I like more ambient bands like Earth.ling too. Funk is great. I think George Clinton is brilliant. Parliament and Funkadelic are the groups that define the sound. I started playing the bass because of bootsy collins. Shonen Knife!!!!! I sing in three bands, a punk band, an acoustic-based industrial outfit, and heavier rock project. I am a vocal performance major in a music college. Stuff I've been listening too lately is a lot of GlassJAw, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cat Stevens, and Dog Fashion Disco. I also reccommend the Getaway Car. I realized there's a lot of stuff I forgot to cover, like the newer metal bands and blues and other things. Any questions feel free to ask.
