heterosexist
silentbob my friend once said that homosexuals choose to be gay. he doesn't consider them "gay" until they've had "gaysex." regardless of countless urges to have "gaysex" they wouldn't really "be" gay until they've actually participated in said "gaysex." Go figure.
I don't know if he still holds that exact same idea... but i know he still stands firm in the belief that homosexuality is a decision.
And i say... why would anyone make a lifestyle choice into a way of life living in a society that doesn't accept them.
i hear people talk about how they are sick of gay pride. why should they get parades when we don't get any?
And every time, i hold my tongue, and let them remain in their ignorance. sometimes i burst out, and people just look at me.
i want to move to kanada.

Tank i find myself guilty of holding my tongue too and that saddens me...

never really understood why there is all this fuss over who someone chooses to shag. i mean, the only time it matters to me, is if i want to know them in the biblical sense...

i deconstructed myself once and i realised that not only is gender a whole heap of cattle poop, so are the biological divisions of sex. all these labels are cultural ascriptions that hold no real meaning away from what we choose to give them.

dominant cultures have never supported my happiness, nor that of many others. hegemony is a crap thing and i will not cease to speak my peace until difference is seen as beauty.

she I heard it constantly said "She is bi." But can guys be considered bi?

Is the saying: 'Suck one dick and you're a dicksucker for life' true?

Just an idea we go round and round about at work.

she No, I'm serious. I work with middle age man and this is an arguement I have to listen to.

I'm not saying one is good and the other is bad. Your choice is your choice, and I'll support your decision all the way.

If you come off your pedestal and think about the question there is no problem, darling. Girls are considered bisexual, why aren't guys?

*Note: I do realize the way I said it was rough and incredibly rude. I am sorry if I have offended anyone. Pardon my 'ignorance'.

User24 I know a lot of bi and gay guys and girls.

I don't think that any of them chose to be the way they are, isn't that a bit like saying you choose which ice cream flavours you like?

karl the weed the incredible ignorance that causes the abuse that homosexuals have to go through amazes and disgusts me. i know several gay, lesbian and bi people, and they are actually usually cooler than strait people. 030706
...
User24 but as long as the distinction is being made, positive or negative, it can only perpetuate discrimination towards one group or another. 030706

karl the weed true, true 030706

Mahayana Saying GLBTQ people are cooler or constructing any other variety of distinction does NOT! equate to the discrimination, unfairness, and intolerance GLBTQ people have to go through, and to associate the two is unreservedly preposterous and uninformed

any type of discrimination is horrible i agree however, saying that certain friends are cooler does not in my mind equate to discrimination, and sort of only mocks the impact of true discrimination.

[and not that it matters but heterosexism deals far beyond the reaches of discimination it partly and simplistically has to deal with the every minute of everyday to day, assumptions that everyone is hetero, and the critical impacts these assumptions have]

User24 put it like this; would you not find the statement:

"All the people I know who like bacon are really cool"

a bit odd? but you don't find

"All the people I know who are gay are really cool"

why is that?

angry j. the topic? 030707

hey now! all mahayana was saying was that what karl said was not discrimination.
and its not.
and i personally know where karl is coming from. all my friends who are gay/lesbian/bi are much cooler than my straight friends. so, no, i dont find that comment odd at all.
but thats just me.
and who doesnt like bacon?! besides vegetarians and vegans. i thought about becoming vegetarian once.. but i like steak too much.

jane i think that when people suffer, they either become more bitter or more loving and open-minded. in the case of glbtq [to use mahayana's abbreviation], it's about love, so they are more apt to be open- minded. that's why people think they are "cooler."
the one thing that bothers me is that the more "orthodox" gays and lesbians do not consider bisexuality to be valid. i said something about this before, about how i can understand the skepticism. hell, i'm bisexual, and i am skeptical of other bisexuals most of the time. many girls just do it for attention, and it bothers me because i've been bisexual since sexuality was an issue [in my case when i was quite young]. so, yeah. i just felt like putting in my two cents.

karl the weed i think that discrimination against gays, lesbians, etc. can never be fully eliminated, because:

a. they are different, really. not a bad thing, necessarily.

and

b.there will always be ignorant idiots.

but reducing it is good.
030707
...
Mahayana ill tell you why that is ...

short & simple

karl said, "i know [[[several]]] gay, lesbian and bi people, and they are actually [[[usually]]] cooler than strait people"

several does not = all the people i know

therefore its an unsound squabble
