"come in here," she urged him, and when he followed she asked him to bring in several friends, until they gathered around her as she stood before the mirror. "why are you looking down?" he asked her, because she refused to gaze forward at her reflection. "tell them to leave," she whispered. "why?" he asked, whispering back. "because i think i'm better looking at a mirror in a room when i'm alone. it takes a while to allow myself to love myself."

He fully intended to pound the piano to bits, but it would not cooperate. Instead it took his anger and from it came forth a touching tale of loneliness, pain and disillusionment. Seems the piano knew Sam better than Sam did. 010220

a mirror in a darkened room staring blindly out the opened window to the night outside reflecting the nocturnal sky the stars the full moon and wincing when its gaze falls upon the blue warehouse across the street. cat yowls and banshee howls and just another night like any other

reflecting the other wall, i turn around (you think i'll face myself and) instead i'm faced with the buffalo of my past and weeds that you know stay a while, you say i imagine and baby comes out from the grass you pick him up & scratch his hair soft he blinks a couple times, you don't look at me anymore we turn to see the smoke on the hills & wonder how controlled it really is i want to see a mirror, not what i remember jackson browne's pretender i'm going to marry him i say to myself in the mirror, & smile i just wait till this room is filled with leaves from the hole in the roof your image ashes fallen trees my mirror, my love come back to this mirrored room, the moon and me, waiting with a reflection of how we used to feel, me, a siren you a pirate searching i'll sing you off course of course you'll drown me with sea mirrors & gold trinkets, you shower me with spices from the east return to this room, this wood i have built with my mind with flowers in my hair for you you will smell baking bread & baby will look up at you & smile i will wear sandals over sunburnt toes & walk down the dirt path we made here that turns to mud when mirror rain falls down
