limerant
Q "Limerant" means being at the threshhold of commitment to a state of being. A "limerant object" is on the verge but not quite there.

The word is sometimes used for the stage in a person's life before clear consciousness of or acquiescence in her/his sexual orientation.

More often the term is used to describe the relationship ("limerance") characterized by deep, addictive infatuation that humans fall into upon "falling in love" but that rarely lasts more than a few years. Sometimes limerance, i.e. a limerant relationship, transforms into a more "realistic," staid, long-term, some would say in most cases "deathly boring," relationship. In this sense, "limerant" means both "knocking like crazy on the door" and "pre-settled-in."

Annabelle, at www.angelfire.com/ca3/
Annabelle/raapr9924.html, describes the biological basis of limerance thusly: "[The] strong and insistent feelings designed to get two sets of DNA within hailing distance of each other to create yet a third set of DNA."

Gerry Wolke, in "Marriage as Fantasy Fulfillment" at
www.naturalhealthconsult.com/
Marriage.html, is a bit more elegant: "[L]imerance is ... rooted in the body's need to reproduce. It has a highly sexual orientation because seed planting and growing is its reason for existence. It is blind because cognitive considerations get in the way. It is jealous because nature wants the organism's seed to be the one to reproduce. It is temporary because once the imperative (and it is a very strong one!) is satisfied nature wants another genetic combination."

The establishment regards "limerance" as merely "being on the threshhold of commitment to a state of being" but regards "being settled in for the indefinite, often ultimately boring, long haul" as being commited to one. Weird and unreal.

And undesirable. I believe many people would be a lot happier if limerance were recognized as a committed state of being. Of course, they would also be a lot more tired - or at least spend a lot more time in bed - and pay a lot less attention to work. That in turn would cut into profits, so the establishment will have none of it.

Maybe we need a revolution, or at least a limerant one?

colleen blanchefleur montague-boru My Professor Emeritus at my University stated in numerous lectures concerning the Holy Grail, Medieval Troubador Warrior Poets, Kaballah Masters/Rhinemasters studies that limerancy was based on the fact of having ancestors who mated sexually with Fairy Queens....ala' Morgan Le Fey, Tatiana Queen of the Fairies.

Even if it was back in the 12th century that your ancestor did the "Wild Thing" with a Fairy Queene - their offspring progeny was a a changeling like child half human and half enchanted fairy.

Other examples of beings who are limerant are the selkes the half human half seals of Ireland. Centaurs half horse half human.

My Professor Emeritus stated that limerant people have at least 7 drops of Fairy Blood. Factual historical examples of limerant people who truly trod upon earth and not just fictional legendary tales are Parsifal, Lancelot, his son Sir Galahad, Guenivere, King Arthur, Lord Byron, Jim Morrison, Rambling Jack Elliott, Ocscar Wilde, Rudolf Valentino, Loreli of
Bacharach-on-the Rhine, Giselle of the Rhineland, etc.

This is a somewhat dicey matter being born limerant. With all the alluring powers of bewitching enchantment that these folks had, their sexual allure got them into hot water and signed/scorched them. Evidentially limerancy can be dangerous.

These powers make a person irresistably alluring. Limerant people fall in love quite easily. There love borders on fine madness. Everyone falls in love with limerant people. When medieval Troubador Warrior poets would sing aloud at royal court their epic canto poetry accompanied by lutes, lyres and harps the audience would swoon with ecstasty trembling, applauding throwing floral bouquets and bestowin laurel leaf crowns upon the most eloquent of the Troubadors.

Medieval Troubadors were aristocratic palladin warriors who fought on horseback in the calvary. My favorite Troubador Warrior Poets were Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son Richard the Lion Hearted. The trouble is when a prince and a sword meet - everyone winds up mince meat.

Limerant Troubador Warrior Poets were the medieval equivalent of modern day rock stars who have the charisma and sheer force of personality to incite a crowd to riot. I grew up with Beatlemania, The Doors and all those iconic Mersey Beat musicians ala' The Mods and the Rockers like Donovan during the 1960's. This is an example of modern day limerancy.

Remember what happened to Guinevere and Lancelot? He was exiled in disgrace for the treasonos act of sleeping with the Kings wife, she was tried in court for adultery sent to a convent while Arthur died in battle, killed by his own illegitimate son who Arthur sired incestuously with his own half-sister the Fairy Witch Morgan Le Fey - Fairy Queen of Sex Magic, Glamour, Sorcery, the Demi-Monde world of bohemian avant garde art and such. Camelot went down in ruins....a wasteland.

So much for limerancy....I like the poetic allure, but don't want to live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse. So I leave limerancy for the wastrel 19th Century Romantic Revolutionary poets who drank the Green Fairy Absinthe in the and died in cold water flats from wretched excess.

Avoid extremes. The middle path is better. Living well is the best revenge.
