guitar_freak These two guys know so much about how life is supposed to be lived. I believe it was Emerson who lived in the woods for a couple years to find himself. He lived without most of the worldly possessions that so many could not live without. He searched inside himself and discovered who he truely was and how he viewed life. The only reason he left his peaceful place was that he believed he had many lives and it was time to move on to another. If only we could do just that. Escape to a secluded place where each person could discover who they really are, the whole world would be so much more peaceful. 001118

misstree actually, that was thoreau... "Walden" was the book he published about it, sest in the Walden woods... he was a master of living simply... but he lived in simpler times, no?

nowadays, living simply is a bit different... it is still possible to disappear into the woods and survive, live a good life... but one has the option of disappearing into the urban jungles to live simply... reminds me of the gutterpunks of nola... no rules, no constraints... life wasn't always easy, but it was free, in its own way...

guitar_freak yes you are right about the guy. Yet I still long for a place secluded from the rest of the world. I mean, wouldn't it be nice to do what he did? Even if he did live in simpler times, it doesn't mean we have to make our lives so complex. Each era had it's own problems. They could've had it harder than us. We are so tied in to all the things in life that make it simple. Like all the stores and convience items. They didn't have nearly as much help to live as we do. So maybe it was just easier for them to leave all their possessions behind, where the average American would have troubles leaving their television, computer, telephone, coffe maker, cd player, and all of the other things that most Americans put so much value on. I think that if each person could escape from their possessions and their schedules for even a week, maybe their priorities would change a little. 001118

Kate Mr. McSparran loves them, and so does Steve, and so does Coach. I read the first three chapters of Walden, then gave it to my friend Megan for her birthday, but I liked it and the ideas of eliminating the need for external and materialistic desires. Mr. McSparran named his six month old daughter Emerson, though he said they'll call her Emma for short. He showed us a picture of her in class--she isn't cute, but she looks very intelligent. Steve wanted me to read Emerson. I found one of his books in my grandmother's house, and I have yet to read it. During practice one day, Coach told me the quote about hearing a different drummer and not following the crowd, because I'm sort of a loner at practice, but in a good sort of way, because I'm friends with everyone but I enjoy solititude greatly. 020924
