the difference between a man and a cat, is that a cat sees a ball rolling into the room, and follows it, plays with it, experiences the ball, while a man tries to discover why the ball rolls, and who threw it.

The collective consciousness of blatherers does not allow for coincidences, user24. You should know that.

well the questions about god are only questions that people who believe in a god ask. and the other 2? why are we here and what is the meaning of life; those 2 are the same question. so really we just want to know what it's all for, and we humans are so complex we feel everything we endeavor to prove must be complex in order for it to make sense - we can either allow our emotions to cause us to analyze everything in search of purpose, or we can use these complex emotions to discover what that purpose is. when you love, when you cry from happiness, when you laugh - are these not the best feelings we have experienced as human beings? comparable to nothing else? none of us are here to change the world, save the human race or mend the planet from centuries of exploitation and greed. but while we're here, since we don't know why we have an opportunity to experience these things that nothing compares to, every moment of every day could be like playing in the 'garden of eden' inside each of us. we are animals at our core, and every animal in the pack must have a purpose, or be left behind. but we are unique, in that we actually have a sense of self, which allows us to control the decisions that lead to these emotions. we burden ourselves with complexity because we are bored, and in this time don't know how to forego insecurity in order to just enjoy being alive. we don't need a purpose; we are so busy toiling for answers, we forget that we are better off without the distractions of such questions. did any of that make sense? or should i put down my pipe and call it a night?

niska, I disagree about the questions about God only being ask by believers, in fact, doesn't the bible tell us not to question or test God? I often ask all sorts of questions, about all sorts of Gods and Godessess, but I don't really believe in any (unless I want to beleive in them, like the house_elves) yes, all our questioning boils down to 'why', why are we here, why did he die, also, 'what'; what happens before we're born, when we dream, when we die. You're absolutely right, we crave complexity, enforce it even, but the answers are simple enough, it's just a case of accepting that there's a limit to the amount of knowledge we can hold -if we draw boundaries in the right places, we can satisfactorily explain most things, if we even need to. While it's important (IMHO) to seek answers, it's also important to use what you've got; love, happiness, etc - given the choice of a life without emotion, but with knowledge of the meaning of life would not only be paradoxical, but also pointless - the meaning of life is life itself. It's how you define happiness and pleasure, and where you draw your own limits that define your life - if you're happy sitting in a tree house in spain, then that's the meaning of your life, if you'd rather be fighting a cause, then that's your thing. IMHO, the meaning of life is introspective - it's not interaction, or material gain, but self improvement, on a physical, mental and karmic level, if I can get bigger muscles, that makes me feel better about myself, couple that with rigorous mental workout with a blue theme, and generally being nice to my neighbour, and I think that's all that really matters. :)

You know karl..they really dont need to know the answer to those questions. Nor must they ask them. They just do. There is a saying under quoting_myself that goes like this: "In the end 'the_answer' really amounts to nothing more than a trophy: An indication to anyone that cares to notice, that we were just foolish enough to ask the question." Keep asking karl..maybe it'll make the time pass more quickly.

it's not the answer that matters, asking questions annoys some people, because we can never attain the answer, so they feel it's a pointless excercise.
