But who's paying for them? When I thought of "Blathercon" I didn't really think of it as being a huuuge thing with logos and organized events planned for the day. I thought of just the blatherskites getting together at some hotel or motel and deciding on what to do when we got there. Also, with the food thing that's been discussed on the mailing list-I thought it'd be-feed yourself. By the way, I'd be saying all of this on the mailing thing, but I don't know how it works...haha. Anyway-those are my thoughts. :) 031130 ... daf You'll find dafamily somewhere on the outskirts of town. a campfire roasting the toasty toesies, a pot of sopa de lentejas and a pot of chamomile tea going. Bespeckled Where will this chat thingy be happening? 031202 ... misstree yahoogroups has a chat section, i think it's java based, you just have to log on to the yahoogroups website, to to "my groups", and blathercon, and on the left (i think) there should be a chat feature. i encourage giving it a whirl beforehand, as there's time to get mechanics straightened out. 031203 ... misstree there seems to be some amount of support for middlin' america blathercon. there also seems to be some support for a camping-type dealie. i personally am not willing to put together an elaborate event the likes of which realistic_optimist is looking to put together. if it is distinctly the will of the peoples, however, i would be willing to find a campground with an appropriate amount of space, possibly even some cabins, in central illinois. this would be a complete bare-bones kind of thing. if you don't like camping or spending endless hours just sitting in the woods or dealing with ticks and bugs and no food that isn't cooked on a fire and being at the mercy of the weather, you'll wanna push for portland. if we went this route, entertainment and creature comforts would be limited, and food would still be provided but would be a bit more basic. i *might* try to push it to june to make the weather more agreeable to outdoorsness than the middle of summer, but i'd have to see when other events are being scheduled for that summer and when the majority of peoples would be available. there would still be some cost involved, especially if we get cabins or rent pavillion tents or suchnot, but it would be marginally cheaper than hotel accomodations. i'll be setting up a poll on the yahoogroups site that will be the OFFICIAL tally, and this will be discussed this saturday. as always, any questions, feel free to ask. 031203 ... girl_jane Illinois would be really cool and take less gas for me to drive there! But if you had it in June I'd for sure not be there because of some theatre things. As far as weather goes, if people were going to spend money on a hotel/motel room in Portland, they could certainly do the same in Illinois. If you do the camping thing, make sure the campground has showers of some sorts. As long as I can be clean, I love camping and cooking things over fires and fighting off bugs with bug spray and such.
