The air is always crisp. One can always breathe. (If otherwise, it is industry, and not the season, which meddles with these statements.)

epitome of incomprehensibility

When I was younger, an excuse to wrap myself in a blanket and become part of the geological scenery of Somewhat Messy Couch, Exhibit 1. I am hiding, I am cold. I do not exist, therefore I do not have to pick up clothes, wash dishes, etc. Invisibility. Cosy. Even now I like layers, bulky coats and mitts. Lumber around. I am perfectly comfortable with my body, I say. But I am more comfortable in layers. And the cold wind blasts in my face. Painful. But a certain exhileration there: braving the elements. From the door, scarcely three metres away: "Where is your scarf?" Ah, that thing. Strangulation or hypothermia? Ah well, I will take it. Now let us hope society provides reasonable accomodation to those who choose to cover their faces. Glasses fog up. Lumbering blindly ahead. That sentence was fun; you can make a metaphor out of it. Metaphors are always fun. But I am melting, I am melting! How can I accept the right of spring? (As a member of the Association for Seasonal Equality, I think Narnia is biased and unfair. At least it was, you know, a wardrobe malfunction.) I used to have a fascination with Antarctica. There was a Sesame Street Song, of all things, about the frozen continent. Explore the world from the comfort of your TV. Oh dear. Or blend in to the furniture and lie in wait. In weight. In a mountain of musty fabric. Spring is coming... I cannot get out... drums, drums in the deep. Oh, well. Stravinsky is cool.

that was very well written. your evocative prose remind me that there is beauty to be found everywhere. though seasonal affective disorder frames my view of winter, i hear the joy in your words. thank you.

oh, hello again... thanks for the compliment, z, though I must admit the above was a random compilation of thoughts and images, some recycled from earlier writing... I returned to this page because it is April 16 and effectively STILL winter here in Montreal. Snow and slush on the ground; it was snowing yesterday. Gah. Our weather is erratic enough already, and pollution just makes it worse. So, enough of the benefits of winter. I'd like to see some benefits of spring already.

Next year. The middle of March, and still a foot of snow outside. I miss Ptolemy/Andru, or rather his light blue words. Back to the weather. I've noticed (from looking at the paper) that the temperatures in Europe are surprisingly warm. Glad to see our old friend Global Warming hasn't gone away completely.
