flattery and fucking lies. It gets you everywhere with those who aren't so wise. Just call me the owl, because I'm not impressed.

If I hear a compliment, I usually suspect that I'll hear the motive behind it soon enough. But I guess I'm just Jaded that's all.

today a friend that I hadn't seen in a while said I seemed at peace with myself. oh, and I had lost weight. both I worked pretty hard at, and I decided to not argue with her, and just take the compliment. sometimes, it's okay to feel good about yourself, especially if you're going to stick around for a while.

The hardest part of receiving a compliment is remembering to say, "Thanks!".

a compliment has no value unless you believe it to be true.

after reciting a poem for a boy at a party, he said, "who wrote that?" "i did." "you're lying! who wrote that?" "i don't read other people's poetry except for my own entertainment. that's mine." "you're lying!" "would you like to hear another poem?" i read him about 5. i don't know if he ended up believing me, but i took his disbelief as a compliment. compliments are easiest to believe when the giver has nothing to gain from it. my heart aches whenever i come across someone who can't recognize the good about themselves--especially because you know that they would take insults to heart in a second.

z said: even if you do not believe it's substance its intent can have value *************************************** something that never occured to me. but believing it's true gives it MORE value. if i receive a compliment and i don't think i'm worthy of it, the feeling of being praised doesn't last long, or i question whether they are sincere. if i believe it's true then my ego is boosted for a longer period of time. hey, maybe i really am an attention whore, but i'm a bit modest....
