I think the nicest piece of advice I had from an old hippy friend always that if everyone in the rat race just stopped, considered what they actually wanted to do and turned en masse to do that, the power of the masses would change the world in a day.

I still have hope in people to change the world for the better. Because we are all able to make the world better in choosing our actions, even down to just smiling or saying hello. Saying 'I see you' in some form to our fellows.
