pete waking alone, half out of the hammock, swinging slightly and about to be unceremoniously dumped on the ground he saw the first rays of light reach into the night sky just before dawn.

getting up he collected his sleeping things and trundled inside, discarding the pillow and wrapping himself in the blanket. "its time to see the sunrise" he said as he left the house. not content with the front yard view he walked into the coming light.

in stages the dark sky faded to day, the eastern horizon painted by Dawn's fingers an eiry gold then red then pink then near-white shade of blue. He kept walking into the day, leaving his community behind holding his blanket tight.

the view from the double bridge was not enough, so he went further towards the ringed hill. finding a hidden field with occassional large rocks tossed about it, likely for sitting on he though, the boy sat down, crossed his legs, and curled up in his thoughts.

the next half an hour passed in a brilliant golden blur, as the world breathed he finally accepted his newly recongized place in it. he focused his thoughts on the rising sun and looked up at the moon with pity in his eyes. "soon your time will be over" he whispered.

his heart, his mind, his soul, and his body no longer burned for the star. they remembered the light, tucking the thoughts safely away, so that one day again they could be revived. dawn was apun him and all the stars had already retreated, he needed his resolve to face the coming light.

colours slowly reentered the world. the green of the grass and trees first, then the yellow of the middle line that ran down the trail which cut through the field. next he could see the golden tips of the overgrown grasses across the trail, waving gently in the wind. the birds sung praises to the new day, and everything seemed perfect.

next the runners woke, taking their graceful steps and flowing breathes without noticing the boy sitting on the rock, observing everything. the bikers came next, and soon he could here traffic picking up on the road, just beyond the thin northern bush.

a few dog walkers stirred next, and the morning was complete. the sun granted a full spectrum of colours to his eyes, and human activity had begun for the day (though it had never truly ended). his sleep deprived body wanted to collapse in the grass and sleep. his aching heart still threatened to break down. his soul animated and his mind fought the narriative thoughts that would be its own down fall.

"its funny" he thought aloud, to himself "how so much can be assumed so often and never be held true. how most risks end in failure, but that is not enough to stop me from taking them time and again. i'll keep doing it. i'll keep falling. i'll keep rising to where the stars sleep, time and again."

he stood and began to walk home, to perhaps sleep, to make up for his restless unbalanced hours in the hammock. or just to begin his day and try to live it fully. "there is no excuse for being bored with life" a friend told him the day before "even going for a walk can be life changing."
