Dafremen "The Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget discovered that what young children believe about space, time, and why things happen is fundamentally different from what adults believe. Piaget found that young children think that a ball of clay, rolled out into a snake shape, has somehow been made into a smaller amount of clay. They cannot say how, but they believe it just "happens"; lack of an explanation does not defeat belief. Piaget's studies convinced him that very young children, free from the demands of reason, do not naturally see any border between psychological events and physical phenomena. Instead they feel that they can cause events, or make things change, by looking at them, by thinking about them, by wishing. The very young perceive no difference, and no border, between themselves and things. Trees and stones, to a very young child, have spirits and minds too, and dreams are just as real as waking events. Thus children are free to believe with all their hearts in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and other logically impossible incorporeal beings. Children among themselves and away from adult explanation and theories, seem to possess their own child culture and to hand on their magical beliefs."

Here's to the young child in each of us.

Here's to blather.

User24 Dafremen, and why should what children believe not be so?

Can you or anyone else offer any proof that it is not so?

No, because we as humans have not explored all dimensions of reality, with it's infinite fractal twists and alternatives.

The universe(s) is not predictable, and just because objects generally appear in 4 dimension in this tiny corner of, does not mean that on the other side, flat people are living quite ordinary lives, happy in the knowing that there is nothing beyond the 2 dimensional, just as we are quite content that 3 dimensions of space and one of time is all there is.

(not having a go, agreeing with you, in fact, but taking the magic onto universal proportions)

(and no, I'm not high (yet))

girl_jane I don't think Daffy is saying that the children shouldn't think that...quotes mean it's somebody else's words...

Dafremen You've done it again jane. My my my, perhaps that's why yer on my buddy list. You're one of the ones who can see through to the truth without preconception or bias. What more could an old chameleon ask for? 030510

girl_jane Since jane has not blathed here, I will assume you're addressing me.

To that, I will say thank you in a flattered-semi-blushing sort of way.

Dafremen Indeed I was. But I didn't feel a need to distinguish between the two of you...you see why. Like I said..truth is no stranger to you I see. 030510

girl_jane While we're talking about truth, I'll be honest and tell you that truth, to me, is often times muddled and unclear.

I *want* to believe what is good-so it's easy for people to make me believe what isn't true.

I trust people too much. So far, nobody's taken advantage of that...I'm just hoping nobody does.

Dafremen You've mistaken their wallowing in dishonesty with an inability on your part to distinguish the truth. Of course you believe in the power of the dawn. Of course you believe that there is hope in each new encounter, in each new situation. That is, in fact, the truth dear. Protect yourself, don't let them hurt you, but never, ever turn your back on your faith in honesty. You have lived the truth my dear and it's what makes you so awfully perceptive much of the time. The time for people with faith and hope is coming. Just hang in there. While they live the reality of human social conditioning, you just keep on living reality...k? 030511
