My neighbour is a tall, elegantly tapered man. He rides his bike, even though he is probably close to 80- years old. He wears a turban-like thing. He is from Afghanistan. He has family spread over Spain, Canada, England and the US now. He was held by the taliban, tortored for information. His ear and finger were cut off in the sessions. He escaped or was released. Now he is a refugee. He is not fond of the cruelty of his hostagetakers. He is in good spirits. He laughs a lot. His daughter and he were university educated and can live forwards in peace here but sometimes he shakes with flashbacks and leaves the room.
