Ruling Says Mistake Gave Paul Hamm Gold 32 minutes ago http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040821/ap_on_sp_ol/oly_tainted_gold_gym&cid=554&ncid=716 ATHENS, Greece - Paul Hamm's gold medal just lost some of its luster. A mistake in scoring of the all-around gymnastics final cost Yang Tae-young the gold that ended up going to Hamm, the International Gymnastics Federation said Saturday. The South Korean got the bronze instead. Three judges were suspended, but the FIG said the results would not be changed, and that Hamm would keep his gold medal. "Judges can make mistakes. That's human," FIG spokesman Phillipe Silacci said Friday. "But it's like football. They cannot change the score once the game is over."

S. Korea lodges formal appeal of Hamm gold Paul Hamm, who became the first American man to win the Olympic all-around title, should not have been awarded the gold, the governing body of gymnastics (FIG) ruled last Saturday. Despite admitting the error, the FIG refused to redistribute the medals and the Koreans have now applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to overturn the federation’s decision. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5856087/

The Olympics are used primarily to sell products....cell phones, cereal, cars, fast food...just watch TV during the Olympics, over half the commercials are from "sponsers" who really just want you to buy thier shitty products. The Olympics is about money, not competition.
