By posting here you agree to abide by the following terms of service ("The terms"). The terms may be updated in the future without your knowledge or consent. Acceptance of the terms constitutes a legal contract between you and International Information Systems Corporated ("Happy Social Site") Happy Social Site reserves the right to use user generated content in any way it sees fit, without the implied or explicit permission of the content-originator. Access to Happy Social Site may be revoked at any time. Such revocation a entail the loss of all your carefully added data*. But we at Happy Social Site don't give a monkey's ass about being social or community orientated, what we're after is pushing an image of friendliness to coerce users into writing and maintaining a website that will basically become a shallow excuse for covert social manipulation, and will simultaneously generate a large amount of media interest and advertising revenue, none of which will filter down to the users who actually make Happy Social Site what it is. Happy Social Site reserves the right to downgrade or otherwise cripple the free service after a few years, effectively forcing users to purchase a "premium" account based on a yearly fee. This premium account will be subject to largely the same draconian terms, but with larger numbers involved; for example, instead of a 30 day logout requirement, premium users might have 60 days, woopy fucking doo. ... Section 412(b): Your Rights Users of Happy Social Site retain the copyright to their material, but by giving it to us to host, we can effectively do what we want with it anyway; we don't have an offline presence to speak of, so if we want to use your stuff, we'll just slap it into a 'featured profile' and make it seem like we care about our users. We don't. Aside from that legal requirement, you basically don't have any rights as a user. We're providing a service; you get to have a free bit of space on the net and chat to other people who've got a bit of space, and we pull in thousands of dollars in advertising. It's a win/win situation, right? Happy Social Site accepts NO LIABILITY (god, we love those words) for any user-generated content (we're just providing a service, remember). After all, we don't hold the copyright, the legal right to be called the author still belongs to our users. God, this is great, we get paid, we don't have to make any commitment to our users, and there's no risk of legal action against us. Sweet. *In effect, this is the online equivalent of a paper company breaking into your house and burning your diary, because 'access has been revoked' to the paper. For some reason it's acceptable online. This is why I don't have a myspace, a deviant art or any other PoS social networking site. This is also why I love blather.

My alternative_god in whatever_plane_of_existence he/she/it inhabits, I'm deleting my myspace profile as I type this. If I only had read the small print, but I'm too impatient to do that. Give me satisfaction now!!! Or I will.....go somewhere else....while you collect my data...that could be harmful in the event that you.....well.... hmm...this wasn't meant to be sarcastic in the beginning.... oh look at my dry skin... I'm off to buy some pore cleansing skin creams... . (aside to User24: your sick dude!. Is that the term the kids are using today?)

am I psychic or what? "Tech Crunch has an article about YouTube identifying and handing over a user's information after a request from Fox. 'Three weeks after receiving a subpoena from the U.S. District Court in Northern California, YouTube has reportedly identified a user accused by 20th Century Fox Television of uploading episodes of the show 24 a week prior to their running on television. That user, named ECOTtotal, is also alleged to have uploaded 12 episodes of The Simpsons, some quite old. Apparently Google and YouTube were willing and able to identify the owner of the username ECOTtotal, according to a report on InternetNews.com.'" slashdot.org
