dada did effect literature, even if you don't want to call it a literary school. it was a mix of the lost generation and exile schools, portraying itself in the absolute confusion of TS Eliot's /The Waste Lands/. Oh dadaism, the connecting strand of culture between the lost generation and the depression poets, which was more nostagilia than anything. It was but one stone in the pile that made Tolkien so big when he first came out with the first volume of the Lord of the Rings in 1954.... *lit nerd*

lit nerds probably constitute one of the last bastions of the Human in our bleak metal faced post-post modern age. Lest I be mistaken for a Luddite, I believe the advances of all the sciences, technologies and the unfathomed synergies of thier collaborations auger an unheralded time for the world of men/women. Before I begin extolling the virtues of art, literature, music..oh what the hell! Yes Wagner was one of the most irredeemable anti-semitics in the victorian or any other age. Okay some right brained creative prodigies probably harbor some of the most decadent, depraved imaginations, character flaws..that would in a word (and what a word! so overused but..)CURDLE the blood. Damn! I guess the point I am trying to make is that there are too many of us w/o passion, w/o eloquence, w/o regard for the other, w/o empathy...and uh the works of great writers encapsulate those values that allow humanity to transcend the primodial, reptilian part of the cortex, gives us an inoculation against reality TV...I don't know..I've kind of lost my point. I miss being able to make my point with cogency and brevity but sadly w/o a serrated edge of sardonic wit. No sir nothing wrong with being a lit nerd at all. Here's the thing...great literature allows us to project our imaginations beyond our own internal universe to see the heart the virtue in another. I'm not talking about some idealized caricature of a portrait of the Christ mind or something. What I am saying is that all great societies from antiquity to today have in coming some thread, some guiding talismanic rudder for womankind/mankind to rise above the solipsistic, to fathom a world beyond the craaige that hold our beating heart and communally transcend what is base and narrow and slit eyed and implacably predatory. Look I'm not Tolstoy or Baldwin or Mailer so not really up to painting a brief portrait here in relief to convey whatever the hell it is I'm trying to say... read books, read the holy writ, read about lives and cultures and poeples beyond your own..to imagine the man or woman or girl of different hue or social stratum than your own..I guess that's what I'm trying to say... ...

may this has nothing to do with dada..but i believe literature can play a part in allowing us to see the heroic in the most mundane or qutidian of tasks. With that we can find an enobling if not exculpatory virtue among the mean, the under educated, the poor the disenfranchised, the two slaps away from being a sociopath...I allows one to say..could you wait here? I'm just gonna go in and put on my *empathy suit. (*yeah i watched monk last night) ...

*quotidian* literature can help us to see an enobling virtue of someones daily struggle, even if that struggle is worlds away from our cultural space. ...

and this is a URINAL ! that was the end of art really ! after that people kept trying ! competing like that - don't work. painting a picture is the same as meditating.. there's no real price or value for it and how can you grade it ? weird how we put a price on things.
